    connecting between 2 pc's

I have 2 pc's. A win 10 and a win 7. They both can see each other but reject any attempts to login. I type in my username and password. Nothing. I assume those are my 'Network Credentials'.
I don't even want to think about my old little XP laptop.

    WTF?

    Thanks.

    :)

  3. Synchronisation between 2 PCs

    Hi,

I have a question about synchronization of my 2 PCs. I would like that all files on my first PC automatically synchronize to my second PC. i.e.. If I work on my PC 1 and VPN connection to the second PC 2 become unavailable. When VPN connection is again established
my PC 2 should receive (synchronize) all files on which I had worked on my PC 1.

Could you please explain complete setting process of synchronization of these 2 PCs.

    Kind regards

    connecting between 2 pc's

The simple way is to have username and password on the PC your connecting to the same as your logged in with so it passes that by default. If you have to enter a password etc it's asking for the one on the PC your connecting to not the one on the PC your using

I am on computer A(win 7). I click computer B(win 10) I get a window asking for my password to computer B. Under the username/ login field is says: Domain: A. This is where I get confused. Do I enter credentials for computer A or B? Neither seem to work. However last night I managed to stumble onto the right combination and was able to connect but I forgot exactly how I managed it.

Update: I connected to computer B from A. It seemed the username is case sensitive. But this did not seem to do the trick for computer B to connect to computer A.

What the heck am I missing?

    Thank you.

    connecting between 2 pc's

The simplest way to network a group of computers at home is to use a Workgroup. When connecting to another PC on a Workgroup the word 'domain' is equivalent to 'workgroup'. To make life simple, make sure all PCs are in the same Workgroup. To connect to a password-protected PC you need to supply the name and password of an account on the PC you want to connect to. It's even easier if there's just you on the network - you can do away with passwords.

I avoid setting up a Homegroup as that seems fraught with complications - not least of which is how it breaks if you do a clean install on the PC that set up the Homegroup.

My Workgroup includes PC's with Windows 10, 7, XP and (on rare occasions) 95 without problems. Passwords are case-sensitive on all except 95.

I got it now. I didn't know your username was case sensitive. Also I typeo'd my own name wrong. Duh.

One thing I need to know is that I am the administrator and that is where my name is misspelled (where it is displayed like Domain\my name). But my username is correct. How do I change the Domain\my name part?(win 7). looked and looked but I can't find where the heck it is! maybe I should just live with it.

Thank you very much for the help.

Your name is the account name you sign in to the Win7 PC. you can change this in Control Panel > User Accounts.

Domain: In Windows 7 right-click on 'Computer' and select Properties, then look in Advanced system settings...

I still don't see where I can change anything but my computer nane.

But that's OK. I'll live with it. I only need the network for my Win 7 PC to migrate data and whatnot to a new PC. My win 7 PC is about 10 years old and pre-dates any of the new processors that have come out since. 32 bit to boot. It was time believe me.
It will be relegated to old data storage and emergency archive. The old girl has seen her day.

    Thanks.*Thumbs

Note that the name of the user's folder will NOT change, just the login name.
