Connection drops completely when trying to use the Internet

Well, I've learned that there isn't a quick fix. Broadcom haven't updated their drivers in almost 5 years, dont expect them to do the same anytime soon.

Connection drops completely when trying to use the Internet

The turning off of power saver features in the Ethernet adapter properties didn't fix the problem. It re-occurred this morning. I have re-installed the Windows 7 image I made prior to the 10 upgrade just so my wife can keep using the machine. Hopefully there will be new drivers soon.

I am disappointed to learn that there is no expansion slot in the XPS 8300. I would have just installed a third party Ethernet adapter that had Windows 10 drivers. If Broadcom or Dell never update the driver, then this machine will be stuck on Widows 7 until its reaches end of life.

According to Dell's website the XPS 8300 has not been tested for Windows 10 and is not recommended.

You could get a USB Wireless adapter or maybe a USB Ethernet adapter for it. From what I read there is one PCIe X1 slot available for add-in cards, just have to find one. I have seen such cards on Amazon, TigerDIrect and Newegg.

I had the same issue after upgrading my Dell XPS the other week. The fix for me seems to be updating the network adaptor driver as mentioned by poster "elshagon" on the previous page of this thread. They linked to this Dell driver page:

I used the following driver from the R250303.exe file:

It's been fine since, no network drop outs at all.

  10. I've been having same situation, Dell XPS8300. I made the changes to the Power Mgt section of the Network Adapater as mentioned by Dechah which appears to resolved the issue.

  11. I have tried this same fix on my XPS 8300, so we'll see how it holds up. Funny that it took about a week for this to start happening since I did my Windows 10 upgrade and it has happened like 3 times in the last hour. Hopefully rolling back to the old Broadcom driver will do the trick. Otherwise, I may plug in a USB Wireless Adapter to circumvent my Ethernet card. Thanks, John, for the fix.

  12. 24 hours later, no Internet problems after rolling back the driver.

I have been reading various forums and have not made the full switch to Win10. My XPS 8300 system seems to be a target for hardware failure in this process. Video and networking complaints are the most common.

Thanks to everyone here for running this one down.

I'll be white knuckled with fingers crossed when I hit the return key this time. Ugh!
