    Consequences of updating windows via iso?


    Hello everyone,

    i need to update my old windows instalation, and i want to do it via iso directly from windows itself. Could anyone tell me the aftermath of that operation? What i specifically want to know is:

    • how much space before and after update will remain on C drive (more or less)
    • is windows.old folder will be created, and if so can i delete it after updating?
    • I have many partitions with many programs, settings, configurations and so on. Are those will be there after updating (default programs, settings for autostart, registry edit for enabling old photo viewer and so on)

    And probably most important one - is updating this way will mess up with my boot partition or bios settings?

    When in win10:
    • Update&security -> Windows update -> Finding update... .... .... ....
    Planning to download the latest Win10.ISO (vers.1803) and manually update:
    - Then wait that my ordered new SSD arrives and clone the old HDD to it.

    I tried imgburn followed step by step and it sucks ...burned an image supposed to be ISO endend up in UDF ..not auto executable and scraped a dvd for it. Gonna try alcohol thx

    Hi dalchina. Good news, I followed your suggestion and reinstalled the update and now it appears as "installed correctly" *Biggrin Maybe it was not necessary to run the Windows Update Troubleshooter or maybe if necessary. But using it I do not think it could have worsened something. The installation was very fast, unlike the first time it showed step 1 and step 2 completed.
