  1. Constantly having to reinstall windows 10, can't find the cause

Okay, this is what's plaguing me. Buckle up, it may get long.

I have a 2 year-old custom built gaming machine with 8Gb RAM, a GTX 660 and an Intel Xeon processor, running windows 10 since I bought it. I also have a 500Gb HD.

At some point, about 6 months into having my PC, I decided to add another HD which I took from an External HD that was malfunctioning. Cue about 10 months or so of using said HD in my PC and every now and then having to format my main partition because my PC wasn't working. I finally noticed it would happen when using the other hard drive, and upon looking into it online I was told my hard drive, which I took from the external thingy, was dying. I proceeded to remove it and replace it with the much smaller hard drive I used to use on my now 11 year-old PC which never malfunctioned.

For a couple of months I had absolutely no issues, but recently I've been getting into the same kind of situation. Here is what happens: I'm using the PC (sometimes I'm playing and doing other heavy stuff, sometimes I'm just browsing). And then it freezes. I restart the computer by pressing the button on the CPU. I then get a blue screen (not a BSOD, just a regular one) as if it's starting up and nothing happens. I then have to turn it off and on again. Now it starts up but it starts crashing as early as the log in screen with various error messages. Sometimes it's "memory management", sometimes it's "irql not less or equal"... And then it gets into a loop of trying to start, going to startup repair, failing to repair and getting to the advanced repair screen. I tried everything I know, from sfc scannow to chkdsk to trying to reset... The only thing that works is reinstalling windows.

At first I thought windows 10 was just... way too sensitive about crashing. So I asked my pal u/Lubp1 (love ya kid) and he said that's not normal, it can mean memory problems or HD problems. So I ran some tests, I used the windows memory diagnostic tool and it found nothing, I used optimize and defrag, I ran crystaldiskinfo and it also found nothing... Am I just that unlucky? Am I doing something wrong? I've had to reinstall windows 10 so many times I can do it in my sleep at this point. I never had this issue on windows 7 even though my old PC was incredibly bad.

Also, while we're at it, why do I have to remake the installation tool everytime? For some reason I can't use it more than once without getting an error, and then I have to redownload the thing.

Can anyone help me? Anyone got any suggestions whatsoever? Thanks!

[Solved] Windows 10 keeps reinstalling KB3119142

I noticed quite some time ago that KB3119142 (Update for Microsoft Visual C++ 2012 Update 4 Redistributable Package) kept reinstalling itself for some reason. At least once daily. Sometimes up to several times a day. I just ignored it. It didn't seem to be doing any harm. And I figured they'd eventually fix it. Well...days turned into weeks, weeks into months, with no end to the problem in sight. It dragged on unsolved for at least the last few months. Literally reinstalling itself hundreds of(at least a hundred, felt like more) times in that period of time.

So I finally googled it a couple days ago. And just got around to fixing it today. Which appears to have worked. And it couldn't have been easier to do. I feel so stupid to have let it intimidate me for so long.*Oops! Constantly having to reinstall windows 10, can't find the cause
Below are links to the thread that I got the fix idea from, and the official MS support info page for KB3119142(from which I quoted the above).

    Windows 10 Tweaks

Pressing “Windows+Pause Break” (it’s up there next to scroll lock) opens the “System” Window.

Windows 10: In the new version of Windows, Explorer has a section called Quick Access. This includes your frequent folders and recent files. Explorer defaults to opening this page when you open a new window. If you’d rather open the usual This PC, with links to your drives and library folders, follow these steps:

    • Open a new Explorer window.
    • Click View in the ribbon.
    • Click Options.
    • Under General, next to “Open File Explorer to:” choose “This PC.”
    • Click OK

Unlocked Realtek HD Audio Drivers Windows 7 & 8 (With Dolby Digital Live and DTS Interactive)

DTS supported natively by Windows 8/8.1 and it should work on windows 10 too just DDL require to unlock your driver .
