Essentially I just want the power button on my 2in1 to turn off the display but leave all other functions running. Excuse my language, I'm quite new to fiddling around with this stuff - I found an option thingy available in regedit.exe and I've used cmd run as administrator (windows+r>cmd>cntrl+shft+enter) to try change the option but it didn't work. powercfg -setacvalueindex SCHEME_CURRENT 4f971e89-eebd-4455-a8de-9e59040e7347 7648efa3-dd9c-4e3e-b566-50f929386280 4 powercfg -setdcvalueindex SCHEME_CURRENT 4f971e89-eebd-4455-a8de-9e59040e7347 7648efa3-dd9c-4e3e-b566-50f929386280 4 powercfg -SetActive SCHEME_CURRENT I also know that it used to be an option which is I guess why the option is in regedit, leftover I guess. Surely there is a way to switch it on though? Use the power button to turn off the computer at Welcome screen

    Hi,

Thank you for writing to Microsoft Community Forums.

I understand that you want to turn off computer at the Welcome screen using the power button.

Ideally, if no user has logged in to the computer, the computer will shut down by pressing the power button. However, I would suggest you to check the settings for power button. Refer the steps mentioned below and see if that helps:

    1. Press Windows key + X, and select
      Power Options.
    2. Click on Additional power settings.
    3. Now, click on Choose what power button does from the left pane.
    4. Click on Change settings that are currently unavailable.
    5. Select Shut down from the drop down for
When I press the power button.

If you are using Windows 10 Pro, you may also want to check the Group Policy Settings, refer the steps mentioned below:

    1. Press Windows key + R, to open
      Run
      dialog box.
    2. Type gpedit.msc and click on
      OK
      .
    3. Navigate to Computer Configuration\Administrative Templates\System\Power Management\Button Settings.
    4. On the right pane, double click on Select the Power button action (plugged in), click on
Enabled and select Shutdown from the drop down for
      Power Button Action.
    5. Repeat step 4 for Select the Power button action (on battery).
    6. Restart the computer.

If a user has logged in to the computer and then logs off from the computer, the computer will shut down by pressing the power button. However, if a user is logged in to the computer and locks the computer using the
Windows key + L combination, the power button will not shutdown the computer. You will have to use the power button on the lock screen to shut down the computer.

If you do not see the shutdown button, please refer the article Shutdown:
Allow system to be shut down without having to log on
    .

If the issue persists, I would suggest you to provide a feedback in the
Feedback Hub. The Feedback hub lets you tell Microsoft
about any problems you run in to while using Windows 10 and send suggestions to help us improve your Windows experience.

  3. Windows 10 power buttons not working.

    Hi Gerry,

I would suggest you to try the steps below and check if this helps.

    • Press Windows + X keys on the keyboard and select
      Control Panel
    • Type Troubleshooting in the search bar on the
      Control Panel.
    • Click on View all on the left navigation pane.
    • Click on Power.
    • Click on Advanced on the
      Power
dialog box and click on Run as administrator (Enter the credentials if required).
    • Click on Next and follow onscreen instruction complete the Power troubleshooter.
    Step 2:

Try to restore the default power plan settings and check to isolate the issue.

    • Press Windows + R keys on the keyboard to open Run command.
    • Type powercfg.cpl to open the power settings.
    • Click on Change plan settings beside your current plan.
    • Click on Restore default setting for this plan and click on
      OK if prompted.
Let us know the status of the issue to assist you further.

Power setting turns display off as set but then it turns right back on

    Verna,

But you did not look at that tutorial's list of related tutorials for all the other

ones. That's what I suggested. The link to that particular tutorial was just a way in to the set of them.

And you'll find even more of the set by searching the list of tutorials.
