    Converting 32-bit Windows 10 to 64-bit Windows 10

Another simple question. The architecture of my CPU is 64-bit but it was running 32-bit Windows 7 SPi. Therefore it got upgraded to Windows 10 32-bit through $Windows~BT Folder. Can I convert it to Windows 10 64-bit and upgrading by downloading the 64-bit Tool from Windows 10

    :)

  3. Can I replace 32-bit Windows 10 with 64-bit?

    Hello,

There is no straight way to convert 32-bit Windows 10 into 64-bit Windows 10, unless you make clean install of 64-bit Windows 10 by formatting 32-bit Windows 10.

    Regards.

Yes you can, you can choose whichever architecture you wish when performing a clean install.

Just to add to what Boozad said:
Choose "Custom Installation" after booting with your created media. Be sure to click "create installation media to install on another PC" when running the media creation tool. Also make sure you select the correct version and architecture for your PC before burning/adding to your preferred media mentioned previously.

Also, since you're running a 32-bit copy of Windows you may have to download the 32-bit tool. Hopefully you won't have any issues with activation.

You have to upgrade to 32bit Windows 10 first before doing a clean install of 64bit Windows 10!

That is very important, otherwise you will be left with no activation. And you cannot do an upgrade from 32bit to 64bit. The 64bit will have to be a clean install.

Never mind. I see you already did the upgrade to 32bit Windows 10 Converting 32-bit Windows 10 to 64-bit Windows 10 :)

Somewhere along the line, using the Tool, you can download a dual iso, it's pretty large though.

  9. You can remove your 32 bit install and replace it with a 64 bit version, but you can't convert one to the other. You will have to reinstall all your programs etc. Also back up any files you don't want to lose. You are going to have to clean install the 64 bit version to go 64 bit.

  10. A clean install will mostly pack up what is found in the Program Files(additional Program Files(x86) for the 64bit Windows) and users directories into the Windows.old folder while the programs you had on will need to be reinstalled fresh. Other folders you created outside the regular MS folders will remain intact unless you plan to reformat the drive.

That's when you will need a full backup of everything you want to keep either by another drive or removable media. The Documents and library folders is where you will see like Downloads, photos, etc. that you will need to through before a complete wipe takes place.

In the meantime simply because 10 was activated on one system doesn't mean you can toss a clean install onto another! unless by change you had an older build that saw the product key used for the previous version. The activation went well for the 10 Pro replacing the temp install of the 7 Ultimate edition on the main case but when seeing simply a clean install to a second mini tower case on the second primary created 10 to dual boot with 7 Pro that clean install of 10 didn't activate on the spot due to that being a totally different configuration. So simply taking the 10 media and seeing multiple clean installs on other pcs or devices once an upgrade is activated on the first system? leaves room for questions on that!. Will be waiting a day or so to see if 10 does activate on it's own or another temp 7 install on the second primary for the one drive pc will need to be done there.

What in the world are you talking about? The OP puts in a 64bit Windows 10 USB/DVD and boots from it. He either reformats or deletes the 32bit partition and installs 64bit Windows 10 cleanly onto it. If he wants anything from the previous 32bit install he better back it up somewhere first.

  12. What does that last paragraph have to do with the OP's question? I didn't see any mention of moving the Install to new hardware?

You have to upgrade from an activated qualifying OS to Windows 10 and activate Windows 10, before you can do a clean install on the same hardware. If you don't, a clean install of Windows 10 on that hardware won't activate.

From all the messages it appears that one cannot upgrade from 32-bit Windows 7 to 64-bit Windows 10 for free. Thank you everyone.

Not directly for free, if you don't have a copy that could be legally installed you would have to buy Win7 64-bit or Win8.1 64-bit and install then you can get Win10 for free until July 28, 2016. Downside is that one can't convert from 32-bit to 64-bit or other way around, has to be a clean install, wipe the HDD losing everything so back up all you created or that exists nowhere else first. Or wait until retailers have Win10 available.
