Windows 10: Copying a DVD

Please help with how I can copy a DVD. I don't have any software that I can find on my system. Does anything come packaged with Windows 10?

No, you will either need to first copy of the contents of the DVD disc to a folder on the local drive, the copy the content of the folder to a DVD using the DVD burning wizard.

Otherwise, a third party free program such as ImgBurn can do a direct copy to another DVD for you.

 

Download and run the free (and popular) Imgburn. It will allow you to copy DVD's (but I don't know about a commercial movie DVD, you may need something else for that).

Slysoft - I believe anydvd in conjunction with clone DVD - AFAIK allows ripping a DVD. Slysoft was shut down by the toads in Hollywood but it has risen from the ashes. Now goes under red fox banner

Yeah David is right, it's dodgy territory. It's all a bit above my head. I don't see why someone cannot rip their own DVD for their own home use but Hollywood think otherwise. All their stance does is boost piracy in my opinion and hurts the DVD industry. If people can't rip them then I'd imagine they'd stop buying them.

 

In addition to the aforementioned copyright issues many movies on VHS tape and DVD discs will be copy-protected, cannot be completely copied. I first ran into that nasty little feature when trying to transfer the M*A*S*H movie from VHS to DVD. I've heard of some audio CDs with the same feature but so far haven't run into any.

 

What I'm trying to copy is a DVD made from a homemade VHS tape.

 

I'm partial to Ashampoo® Burning Studio FREE - Overview which I have been using ever since Nero became such a bloatware.

 

Nero is now "bloatware" but Nero BurningROM is the ONLY burning program I've found that will burn to multiple drives at the same time - something I need.

 

AnyDVD software from Slysoft is no longer..............however a few of the old employees of SlySoft have formed a new company now called "RedFox" they will be offering AnyDVDHD as subscription software......they are also offering programs from Elby Software which you will find more than capable of making a backup of your DVD........

In no way am I suggesting you break any copyright laws!!!!!!!!

I personally make backups of all the Kids movies I have purchased for my grand-kids and now great grand-kids so the originals are not ruined with peanut butter, candy, and juice fingerprints that all kids are known to leave on everything they touch.......LOL

As mentioned above you have FREE choices for normal CD/DVD/Blu-ray burning programs...........

I have found this one to work nicely for what burning I find the need for.....

 

I've used Digiarty WinX software to make working copies of CDs and/or DVDs; Each version [and its child updates] have one price.

 

Any burning app will handle this task, since it is not a copy-protected disc. ImgBurn, CDBurnXP, Ashampoo, BurnAware are all a few free options.

 

I would advise to be careful if you decide on Imgburn........the new installer is very tricky and will install "OpenCandy" stuff on your system......

Several antivirus programs will stop the install due to the OpenCandy...........there are ways to prevent the OpenCandy install......First disconnect from the internet prior to the install...

OpenCandy exists ONLY because of the Internet and cannot do its job if the Internet is not connected; the DLLs used (placed in a "Local Settings/Temp/nsx3.tmp" folder) test for connection, and just give up if it doesn't exist. Without the Internet, the installer completes and DOES NOT INVOKE ANY MORE OPENCANDY dialogs.

The previous version of ImgBurn 2570 did not have the silent adware installers from OpenCandy.......however you still have to be careful to uncheck the boxes to install their suggested search engines and other crap........

You can do some searching on-line for other methods for avoiding OpenCandy but the safest bet is to just avoid ImgBurn altogether and move on to one of the many burning software's.....
