Coronavirus brakes out and my wife is a doctor responding to the outbreak. I'm a teacher who needs to scramble and put together a distance learning curriculum while homeschooling a five year old and a six year..... You can safely say I was fairly stressed out and my first priority wasn't asking for a refund at the Microsoft store. I purchased a video series for my high school students but I am having technical difficulties. I asked for a refund but Microsoft refused!!! Outside the two week window....a once in a lifetime pandemic is going on?!?!?!? Requesting a refund wasn't at the top of the list. I was only a couple of weeks outside the window. The can clearly see we've only watched one show.

    Coronavirus Cybercrime Scams

*This thread has been created to provide information awareness and hopefully some guidance at time of writing. As things evolve there will likely be changes and additions.

Microsoft has today published the following article:

Protecting against coronavirus themed phishing attacks

Protecting against coronavirus themed phishing attacks

Phishing is the most prevalent threat to the consumer (home user) but like other

    trending world events

miscreants (hackers, malware creators and scammers) seize upon the opportunity to take advantage of people.

Malwarebytes Labs describe some of these other malicious activities in their recent blog.

Here are some examples reported by other security information providers.

Note: If you wish to track global statistics I recommend the following:

Coronavirus COVID-19 Global Cases by the Center for Systems Science and Engineering (CSSE) at Johns Hopkins University (JHU)

    ArcGIS Dashboards

Furthermore, instead of using potential malware containing apps advertised or promoted online for self-assessment, medical advice or how this situation impacts you I suggest visiting federal, state/provincial or local government websites (If I find a link
that lists these I will add it to this thread).

Important: For the time being this thread will remain open. I only ask that replies be restricted to references to other relevant and new information that would impact the home computer
    user.

    Best wishes to all.

Coronavirus and safer daily use of Devices

    Hi,

Here is a list of some international and local government/health authority informational type of websites you may be looking for. They have information for at home and at the workplace (using devices or not). At least the information itself here that may
fit ones need is of true authority websites and not scam messages/websites and such that may emerge. If one needs to find (other) health sources to check one can simply go back to the main page of these official websites (in several other languages). I'll
try to have a fitting abstract edited into the Header if the need for this still exists later.

Coronavirus and safer daily use of Devices

This thread has been created to provide and collect information/tips for a more safer daily use of your Computer and other Devices.

General tips for if you need/want to create more safety:

Preferably work from your Home and/or create a Quarantine area of some kind (provides step/fase options).

Inform yourself about and be aware of the specific Cybercrime risks of working from your Home also.

Wear/use outside/inside specific clothes/products/materials if possible to reduce possible spread of risk to other persons/surfaces/areas etc.

If possible, use a personal Mouse, Keyboard, Touchscreen and such with your devices (if possibly shared otherwise).

Although regular soap and water cleaning is preferred where possible, using an alcohol cleaning tissue may help too to

    clean/disinfect
and reduce possible spread of risk.

If you have children, think of ways to make a game/play of things like not touching ones face etc. also to make them more aware and occupied themselves.
