  1. Corrupted hard drives

    Hi

I am sure this has been covered elsewhere but I can't find it.

My external drives were set to 'turn off write-cache' and we had a black out. The result is a 3 Tb Seagate external drive, a 2 Tb Seagate external drive, and a 500 Gb portable drive are no longer seen by the desktop. The computer is still OK as it boots up off the internal drive which is not set to 'turn off write-cache'.

Can anyone kindly point me to information on how to recover these drives, even if it does mean re-formatting them?

    Thanks

    :)

Mea culpa! I replied to the wrong post, which is obvious from the portion quoted. Nevertheless, I apologize to you.

    Corrupted hard drives

    Hi,

Could you try moving these drives to another computer and see if they show up there using disk management ?
Even if files are corrupted on these drives they should still show up unless the controller is damaged ?

    Cheers, *Wink

  5. Thanks for your response. I have tried that but they are still not showing up. I suppose it is possible they got fried but they are surge protected and nothing else got damaged. They register audibly when I hook them up via USB but not in the Disk Management

    Hi,

Sure but that doesn't mean anything. If you hook up a HDD that needs external power (i.e. exceeding what USB can deliver) it will still register audibly under Windows but won't show up in disk management or explorer for that matter.

Could you check if these drives are recognized by the bios of the machine ?

    Cheers, *Wink

Quick question for you, have you tried to run chkdsk on those drives?? If not, do it.

    Hi

    1. Neither drives shows up in BIOS
    2. Can't run chkdsk because the computer doesn't see the drives

Interestingly, if I leave the drive/s connected doing a cold reboot, no desktop is displayed (it shows a black screen) but SpyHunter splash screen shows and the app runs.

    Bizzare
