    Cortana Drives Me Crazy

    Hi,
few days ago I decided to create a reminder in "Microsoft To Do" app, that will remind me about something everyday, both on phone and in Windows (I have this app in my phone too). However, due to some reason (I don't remember well) I wasn't satisfied with it and decided to ask Cortana to make a reminder too. Cortana made a reminder about it in "Microsoft To Do" app as well and after that I was getting 2 reminders of the same thing both from Cortana and from that app. I asked Cortana to cancel the reminder. She said, I needed to go to my "Microsoft To Do" app and delete that reminder from there. I did, however Cortana is now creating this task everyday and reminding me about it and when I check that app, I see again 2 same reminders - one that I created manually and another one created by Cortana. I don't know what to do and how to tell her to stop creating this reminder. I thought I would disable Cortana at all, but I don't see such option in Windows 10. I saw some articles how to disable her via Regedit, which I don't want to mess with.

    My Windows version number is:

    • EditionWindows 10 Pro
    • Version20H2
    • Installed on‎2020-‎06-‎12
    • OS build19042.508
    • ExperienceWindows Feature Experience Pack 120.2212.31.0

    :)

In order to enable the Notebook icon in Cortana, I suggest you to check if you have enabled Cortana.

To enable Cortana, please follow the steps below:

    • Go to Cortana.
    • Go to Settings.
    • Turn on “Cortana can give you suggestions, ideas, reminders, alerts”.

    Hope this helps.

  3. Cortana

    Hi,

Thank you for posting your question in the Microsoft Community.

Appreciate your efforts to work on this issue.

This issue can occur if some of the system files are not working as expected.

Suggest you to follow the steps from this article to
    troubleshoot Cortana on the PC
    .

Note: Do not go with the ‘Reset PC’ option for now.

Method 1: Follow these steps to disable Cortana:

    1. Sign-in to the PC with your Microsoft account.
    2. In the search box at the bottom, type Disable Cortana.
    3. Once the suggestions appear in the list, click Cortana & Search settings.
    4. From the right section of the Settings pane, move the top button to ‘Off’ to disable Cortana from Windows 10.

Method 2: Follow these steps to check if that helps.

    1. Launch Cortana from the search bar on the taskbar.
    2. Then, from the left pane click the settings button.
    3. Under "Cortana" (the first option) and slide the pill switch to the ‘Off’ position.

Method 3: Launch the Settings app and click on Privacy. Navigate to Speech, inking, & typing, and click Stop getting to know me. These steps will disable Cortana.

    Hope this helps.

Let us know if you got the help you needed.

    Cortana Drives Me Crazy

SearchUI.exe not starting (Cortana and Search won't work)

Many people are having this issue, and there's a lot of crazy suggestions out there. I've tried them all, and nothing worked until I did this:

    • Delete the directory: C:\Users\<user>\AppData\Local\Packages\Microsoft.Windows.Cortana_cw5n1h2txyewy [REBOOT]
    • Run the following command from Powershell with Admin privileges: Add-AppxPackage -Register "C:\Windows\SystemApps\Microsoft.Windows.Cortana_cw5n1h2txyewy\AppxManifest.xml" -DisableDevelopmentMode [REBOOT]

For Step 1, you'll have to boot to a WinPE drive, or maybe Safe Mode because the directory will be locked. But, if you do these two steps in this order it will fix the problem.

There is no need to create a new account--this accomplishes the same thing, which is getting rid of the corrupt Cortana database and installing a clean one. I did all the DISM commands, they don't work. I did SFC, it doesn't work.
