Windows 10: Cortana/Search/calendar/mail/weather/groove music/moviesTV not working

As the title says, when I click on cortana button, nothing happens. I used to be able to search stuff after opening start by simply typing, but that also doesn't work anymore. Also several apps that I use fairly often don't work as well as seen in this picture:





I have tried several solutions and the one I'm trying now is the one I saw on this video:

However I get stuck halfway through it because of errors:

Store, Search, Mail and Calendar don't work.

I recently upgraded to Windows 10 Anniversary Edition, but now Store, Search, Mail and Calendar stopped working. Cortana and Store just close immediately after I open them and Mail and Calendar say This app can't open and something about contacting my administrator.

Edit: It seems XBox, Feedback Hub and Groove Music don't work either.

 

When will the next release of Window 10 be avaiable to current users of Windows 10, will it correct Store and solitaire collection problems?

Most of the "apps" when one clicks on the "start" button (lower LH corner) do not work. They flash momentarily and disappear. The "apps" that do appear to work are:- News, Money, MS Edge, Cortana, Weather, and Phone Companion.

Store, MS Solitaire Collection, Twitter, Photos, Mail, Calendar, Get Office, One Note, iHeart Radio, Flip Board, Movie TV, Groove Music, Mine Craft, Flipboard, Xbox. do not function at all.

No error messages are recorded to my knowledge.

You might try a repair install using an in-place upgrade. That fixed things for me once.

Hello, thanks for your reply. I did try sfc /scannow you can see it in the screenshot above at the end. I also did it in powershell prior to the command prompt, same result.

I'm looking for a solution that isn't as drastic as to re-install windows or do stuff in BIOS and such. This is a 7 year old PC and I have done a lot of customization plus re-installing or repairing requires a lot of data (I think?) I have a transfer data cap.

Edit: Are you asking for the .log file? It's 46 MB and the forums have a 2 MB cap I believe.

 

The sfc /scannow tool should be run at least three times with complete reboots in-between (this means Fast Startup should be turned OFF). Sometimes some things have to be fixed before others can be fixed.

Further down in the tutorial, there are instructions on how to grab a text file of the [SR] lines from the CBS log so you can post that here for evaluation.

The repair install using an in-place upgrade is not drastic at all. It is not a reinstall, it has nothing to do with the BIOS, and the only data required is the ISO download.

 

I had already rebooted and done multiple scans in the past. Anyways, I have the shorter version of the log file but it's still 3.6 MB so I can't attach it as a whole, I split it into two parts.

 

You need to reinstall the app. Most likely you disabled a Service or made a registry edit. Try rolling back to a System Restore point before this started.

 

What app should I be re-installing exactly and how? I have checked for restore points, I don't have any restore points dating before this happened. I kind of let it be for a while even though it's annoying but now I want to fix it.

Have you read the tutorial on it yet? Please ask any questions before proceeding. It's pretty easy. Only thing you need is the latest ISO from MS.

 

Can you post a screenshot of your winver?
In Task Manager, File>Run new task and type in winver.

 

Downloading a file that is several GB is really sub optimal solution for me though, no offense. Like I said before I have a data cap. Ideally I'd like to avoid that because I'm not sure the benefits are worth the cost.
