Windows 10: Cortana sound

I have a problem with Cortana. There is no Mic icon in the search bar. There is a mic on the system. It is listed in Device Manager. It is a Logitec Mic and it works. There is also a Windows mic in Device Driver and that is reported as set up correctly. Any help would be appreciated.

I'm unable to open the settings of Cortana and unable to start any video or even music, when I change the sound, I'm unable to hear the sound, all these things worked when I disabled Cortana but now I'm unable to turn off Cortana... any solution?

 

Alarm clock doesn't sound even when set and computer is awake

This did not fix the problem. I switched off Cortana, I removed Cortana from the search bar. I even updated windows and restarted the computer. I then manually set the alarms but the alarms did not sound.

I have Cortana playing music, so I know the sound is on. Therefore, the problem exists in the Alarms app.

Any other fixes please?

Incidentally, there was no alarm sound for countdown timer either.
