Windows 10: Cortana Voice Won't Activate!!

Clicking Windows + C or the Cortana button bring up the little screen as if ready for audio, but no listening or audio feedback happens. Ring appears but does not pulse or provide the audio acknowledgement that it is listening. "Hey Cortana" does not work at all. Cannot bring up Cortana settings at all..... the computer simply won't load them. One time, after 10 minutes of loading, the settings said Cortana was not available in my region (even though I am in the US and it worked up until a day ago). Checked registry keys, they seemed okay. Search indexing works fine, so I am hesitant to go completely nuclear since that is that most important part to me. I also still get my Cortana outlook reminders etc, so she is still active in the backend. Microphones, speakers, everything else checks out in every other way.... the issue appears to be completely isolated within the Cortana application itself. Any way to "reboot" it?

• Check and verify if Cortana is activated?
• Does Cortana search and gives any output/result on screen?
• Is the Language and region settings set to valid value?
• Check and verify if Cortana available in your region?

Method 1:

I suggest you to try to turn Cortana off and then try turning it on back and check if she talks. Refer to the steps below to turn Off and On Cortana:

• Open Cortana.
• Click the hamburger button in the top left of the window.
• Go to Settings and click on off.
• Follow the same steps to turn it on.
• Check if issue persists.

When you say 'No Cortana voice on PC ' are you referring to that Cortana cant hear you?

I suggest you to follow the methods given below and check if it helps.



Method 1: Setup Mic

Step 1: Set up Mic in Control Panel.

1. Type Set up Mic in Cortana's search bar.

2. Follow the on screen instructions.



Step 2: Verify Speech settings.

1. Go to Settings >
Time and Language >
Speech.

2. In the Microphone section, click Get Started, if no Microphone is detected.



Method 2: I suggest you to update the Audio drivers on your device and check if it helps.

  Right click on the Start button from the desktop and select Device Manager.

  Expand Audio inputs and outputs, right click on High Definition Audio Device and click on Update driver software.
