Windows 10: Cortana works until "Hey, Cortana" test breaks her.

I've reproduced this multiple times and can find no explanation for it. Cortana works like a charm until I try to set her up to listen only for my voice. The second the first "Learn how I say 'Hey Cortana" test phrase "Hey Cortana, do I have anything on Wednesday?" displays, the mic cuts off, and she won't respond to anything until I click the mic icon. In the meantime the Application Log in Event Viewer starts flooding with "Voice Activation Event: Rejected 'Hey Cortana' (confidence value 0.xxxx) from non-enrolled user -- SWKWS-Stage1" events. These events will come and go on their own even though nothing is saying her name. If I run the mic test it immediately marks itself as "fixed" even though it hasn't solved anything.


How do I fix this?

Step 1: Check if you have enabled the "Hey Cortana" feature

  Click on the Windows Search bar or Press Windows key.

  Click on the Hamburger sign at the top left of the window and click on
  Settings.
  
• 
  Enable Let Cortana respond when you say 'Hey Cortana' option.
  
• 
  Now check if it works. (Tip: After you say "Hey Cortana", follow up with a question/service for Cortana to respond).

Hey Cortana not working.

Hey Cortana is turned on. I have gone through all the steps to get her to recognize my voice etc etc. When you click on the mic in the search box she works fine, but will not respond to Hey Cortana. Works fine on Surface Pro 4 but not on Dell Venue 8 pro.
Anyone have a fix?
