  1. CPU Low Utilization and Low Core Speeds

    I have Dell Latitude E6530 Core i7-3720QM 2.60ghz and nvidia nvs 5200m

For the past month or so my cpu core speed won't go above 0.90ghz and CPU utilization stays below 10% .I tried reinstalling Windows Resetting Computer but none worked.

Note:I don't know if this relates to my problem buy my laptop's battery has died and does not hold a charge.(laptop shuts down instantly if i remove charger) I dont think this is related to my problem since it was running fine for a long time without the battery and if it is the problem should i buy a new one or is there some other way to fix this.

Compressing (zipping speed) in Windows 10 low CPU utilization

    Hi Christopher,

Low CPU utilization depends on the file size volume. The type of processor has to be considered as well. Zipping files doesn't really affect the utilization of a computer's CPU. The zipping feature available on Windows 10 has its default compression speed.
If you want to have an option to choose a compression speed, there are third-party apps that you can consider. Try searching first in Windows Store.

Let us know if you have any questions and/or clarifications.

CPU speed at 0.48Ghz during low battery

    Hi,

On my laptop, I have noticed that the CPU speed is dramatically reduced from 1.98Ghz to 0.48Ghz whilst low on battery. As soon as I plug the laptop in, the CPU speed returns to 1.98Ghz. This loss of CPU speed has a great impact on system performance, rendering the laptop near useless.

My laptop is running an Intel Core i3, and I believe that the technology which controls the speed of the CPU is called SpeedStep. There is no option in the BIOS to turn this feature off. I have also tried to change this setting in the 'Power Plan' options (in Windows). I changed the minimum processor state to 100% and the cooling policy to 'Active'.

I would like to keep my CPU running at 1.98Ghz. Any suggestions?

    (see this photo for clarification)

    Many thanks.

Compressing (zipping speed) in Windows 10 low CPU utilization

I was wondering if anyone knows a way to speed up the zipping speed in Windows 10. It seems like it should be running much faster.

The reason being, the hard drive transfer rates in task manager while compressing are not nearly as high as what the hard drive can do, nor as fast as when copying the same batch of files from one folder to another. Also, the CPU utilization never goes
above 30% and the CPU isn't even at full clock speed most of the time. Therefore, neither the i/o nor the CPU are the bottleneck.

Is the built-in zipping feature not sufficiently multi-threaded to make good use of the CPU (at least up to the max the disk can serve up)?

    Thanks,

    CB
