    CPU throttling after plugging in charger cable windows laptop.


    HI, my cpu is supposed to run at 2.90 ghz but when I plug the charger in the fan stops and it drops down to 1.59ghz impacting performance.My power plan is high performance and runs fine on battery power.No heating issue, original OEM chargerMy laptop is a HP notebook 15.6 inch.Please help fast.

    Hello BrarSukh,

    Does it still go at 2.90 GHz when you open up apps, play games, etc. with the charger plugged in?

    It could be a power policy set in.

    Go into Control Panel > Power Options and click on "Change Plan Settings" and "Change Advanced Power Settings" -- for the plan that is your active plan.

    See down below in "Processor Power Management" for minimum and maximum processor state when plugged in.

    Check in Registry for the following key: HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SYSTEM\CurrentControlSet\Control\Power\PowerThrottling

    If it has the "PowerThrottlingOff" as 0, change it to 1.

    If there isn't a key add it.

    Check the Graphics Power Plan, also.

    Dell CPU Throttling while charging (0.46 GHz)

    This is my laptop's issue when it's been bought. When it is plugged in, it is throttled to 0.48 GHz

    , while if it is not charging, it can go up to 2.56 GHz. I tried removing the battery and plugged the charger, but it is still throttled. What can I do? Thank you for the future answers.
