Windows 10: Crazy Display

• Going to HP to download the latest driver is impossible. I have to go through the support assistant and that blocks me saying another administrator is blocking me. I can't clear that out. I've tried to go to the ATI Radeon site but it says I have all the latest drivers. Doing some checking, I find that it may be windows defender stopping me. The other administrator seems to be WDAGUTUTILITYACCOUNT. Since I've spent about 5 hours on this tonight, I'll give up until tomorrow to see if that can be disabled.

 

If you do not have a warranty on it, have another computer or access to one, download the Media Creation Tool to a USB, and on another USB download from HP your Software/Drivers, do the clean install, then install your downloads of HP Software/Drivers. ( some will install, some wont since the OS wont be supported.) You can also install the HP Support that will update some drivers.
I have a HP 15, it completely crashed, I did the clean install back on 11-22-17. had some issues with drivers though. I used Advanced System Care Driver Booster to update some drivers, later used Driver Easy to update driver for the WiFi. everything working fine except a small issue on music APP's, they will be playing, then no music, I can click pause, then click play and music starts back. I ran trouble shooters and it comes up with no issues.

 

If I do a clean install (I could use my recovery partition), I would lose all my programs. I'd rather not do that. It would take me weeks to get them all back. The computer is about 5 years old.

 

You can back up all your files. this is my Disk Management, you there is a recovery. I know several of these guys on here will know how to tell us how to access it if we run into a problem.

 

Drive D & F are 2GB USB sticks being used as Ready Boost, Drive G is SD card. disregard them,
Disk 0 Part 1 Recovery, Disk 0 Part 2 EFI, Windows is bootable OS.

 

As mysteriously as this problem came about, it just came fully back with another black screen for about 4 seconds and everything was corrected. The only thing I did lately was a chkdsk with repair. That was much earlier though with about 3 restarts in between. I now have choices in screen resolutions, the start/power now has the sleep choice back and I can click on a program once and get it instead of twice. I immediately created a restore point so if it happens again I can go back to it. I'm now running every scan I have and will create another restore point when I'm done. Thanks for all the replies even though nothing seemed to work. Hopefully it will stay as it is. This has been a major headache since the 23rd of last month.
