Windows 10: Create folders in Mail is not an option

I just got a new laptop with Windows 10 Version 1909.

I have Mail Version 16005.13110.41006.0


I am unable to create folders to organize my mail. The + sign mentioned in many posts about this problem is not showing on my screen. I have seen many posts over time with this issue and none of them have a clear answer as to how to fix this issue.


Several of the posts mention doing a reset of the app but I'm afraid if I do that it will re-sync all of the old emails I've deleted from my mail as they are still stored on my webmail client and I don't want to have to go through that clean up process again.


I am able to create folders on my webmail but they do not sync to the mail on the computer. I do not like using the webmail and want to use the mail app on the computer. I am not using outlook.


Are there any options to be able to create folders in the mail app?

cannot create folders in windows mail app

when I go to 'more' in the mail app and click + a dialog display appears however when I enter the name of a new folder and click enter it appears momentarily in the folder list then disappears and a message appears at the top screen saying that the action could not be completed. I have tried the suggestions from the windows help site but nothing works. it appears that my only solution is to uninstall and reinstall the app, however that is not possible because I don't want to lose all my e-mails and accounts.
I think that the problem is definitely with the app and not some weird Windows thing because I can create new folders with my Gmail account.
Any suggestions will be appreciated, thanks in advance

 

Mail for windows 10 - will not create folders

Mail for Windows 10 offers the ability of creating your own folders and subfolders. I have followed the steps to do this however I keep getting an error message saying the folder could not be created. My software is up to date and I have tried the other
troubleshooting suggestion offered (closing the app and opening it again) without success. Other ideas to fix this?
