Creating a partitition on my OS hard drive

I'm running Windows 10. It's located on a hard drive that 2Tb. I notice on Control Panel > All Tasks, there's a item "Create and format hard disk partitions." I've been wanting to partition this hard drive so that Windows and my programs are in one partition and everything else is on another. If I choose the option to Create and format hard disk partitions, will it format/erase everything on the hard drive or just lead me to partition the hard drive? I understand that I will have to temporarily move everything other than Windows and my programs onto another hard drive so that they're not lost.

    :)

  3. Overclock your hard drive!!!

Heres a much easier hack that I realized quite a few years ago that really does work!

    REQUIREMENTS:
    • Hard drive with molex power connection.
    • PSU with more than 1 strand that has molex plugs on it.
    • Wire strippers, soldering iron if you're fancy, electrical tape if you're not.
    STEPS:
    • Take the strand of connectors from your PSU, and decide which one will be the donator for this overclocking adventure.
    • Cut the yellow and orange cables, then twist them together.
    • Find the power connector you've chosen as the overclocking connector, and release the orange cable from the connector. Now use your preferred method to bind them together, then place it back together.
    • Plug in a drive and feel the speed!
Congratulations! You've just overclocked your hard drive!

    W7 Hard drive partition issue

to get rid of that 100 meg windows partition that setup creates for you on a new install on a blank hdd:

    - press shift+f10 when on the partition management screen in setup <-- this opens a command prompt
    - diskpart <-- start the windows command line partition management tool
    - list disk <--- list the installed hdds in this computer for the next step
    - select disk 0 <- might have to replace 0 with the number of the correct disk
    - clean <-- this will erase all data on the disk you selected one step up- dont use the wrong disk!
    - create partition primary <- creates a primary partition taking up all space on the drive, adjust the command if necessary
    - exit, exit to exit diskpart and the command prompt
    - click refresh in partition manager and select your newly created partition and install to that
