  1. Creators Update and Windows 10 Home

    Hello,

I have two laptops with Win10 Home that I update only sometimes (because the WU service is disabled and because I do when I want to do it).

I just update it and everything was fine but it didn't download the CU patch. Also, I try to force the "Search for updates" but nothing, it says that it's updated. In fact, they updated all the patches of may 2017.

How it works with the CU patch? You have to apply it manually? I was understand that the manually choosing was only for the PRO edition of Win 10.

    Thank you...

    :)

How do I download Windows 10 iso image without "Creators Update"

    Here's what I have:

    - Windows 10 Home x64 (with "Creators Update")

How can I download Windows 10 Home x64 iso image file without "Creators Update" applied ?

I used Media Creation Tool (MCT) to download Windows 10 Home x64 iso image and reinstalled it after formatting and re-partitioning the existing Windows partition. Existing Windows had "Creators Update" installed at the time of iso download (using MCT), so
I wished naively that the new download will be something without the "Creators Update" which was not true. I guess MCT detects "Creators Update" installed in my current windows and tries to download the iso with the "Creators Update" applied. Does anyone know
how to download iso without the "creators update" using MCT ?

  3. Which is better Windows 10 pro or anniversary update

    See the following:

    Windows 10 Home or Pro:

Windows 10 Home or Pro – Which is the Right Edition for You?

Windows 10 1507, Windows 10 November Update (1511), Windows 10 Anniversary Update (1607), Windows 10 Creators Update (1703), Windows 10 Fall Creators Update (1709) - these are what you call Feature Updates. They are released two times per year - March and
    September.

Each come in the different editions such as Home, Pro, Pro Edu, Enterprise.

Creators Update and Windows 10 Home

Hello, disregarding what you are doing with Windows update, and presuming you have the Anniversary Edition (you don't say which build is installed) then:

MS rolls out each major build over a period of several months. Just think of the huge load on the net and on their servers if they tried to deliver it to everyone.

MS prioritises 'low risk' 'new' computers in some manner.

It may take a couple of months before you are offered the upgrade.

Yes, on any Win 10 PC you can download it and upgrade manually. In fact, that is my definite preference.
    Why? It's under my control.
    1. I update my disk image of my existing PC. That means I can restore my PC to the same working state it was in from that disk image if something goes wrong.
    2. I create a bootable medium of the new build of Win 10.
Why? Because it can be used
    - to upgrade several PCs
    - for repair purposes
    - to reinstall
    - to reattempt the upgrade if it fails.

(We strongly and repeatedly recommend the routine use of disk imaging e.g. Macrium Reflect (free) - you can than recover quite quickly even from a failed disk or ransomware without technical help, not to mention user error).

    3. I disconnect any unnecessary peripherals, disable my AV, remove one utility I know will conflict.

    4. I attempt the upgrade. I prefer to do this without the complication of downloading additional updates at the same time. I will do that subsequently.

A note on restricting Windows updates in general
I set mine to 'notify only' - that is, I get a notification that if there is one to download.
(See Winaero's free tweaker with full explanation of the group policy/registry changes)
I can then do that when I want. Never an unexpected download or restart.

As I have Win 10 Pro, I have 'Defer feature updates' active, as I wish to stay with the AU for now.

Further to that, if there is a known issue for a particular make or model of PC Microsoft place a block to prevent it being delivered through Windows Update to owners of those machines. The block will only be lifted when the issues have been addressed. For example...

Windows 10 Creators Update roll out on track and expanding

    ...and

    A Tale of Two Kernels

So perhaps there's a good reason you are not seeing the Creators Update yet.

  7. Do you use media creator tool or oher method?

I download a copy using media creator, then choose to burn it to a DVD.

Given all the problems reported with the CU reported on this forum (as usual for major MS updates), I would wait until the CU is offered by Windows Update for your PC. You could then install the CU using the Media Creation Tool or ISO file so the installation is under your control. I'm happy to wait for the CU in the vain hope that MS have fixed the most serious bugs and I will have a smooth upgrade.

  10. I want to follow your advice about the CU, for all my win 10 pcs.

My main issue is the actual Anniversary has the Restore Point broken so I am in a confusion because I really use it everyday and the imaging tools I am triing these days has problems are not easy and immediate like it.

If your error is 80070091 there is a workaround for that.

It should not be necessary to use System Restore frequently, unless you are doing some sort of unusual testing, I suppose.

  12. Hi,
I'd be using free macrium reflect for system images/ restore points personally
Allot fewer issue plus a cleaner way to revert if there are
Backup and Restore with Macrium Reflect Windows 10 Backup Restore Tutorials

As far as the creators update well it is what it is slowly getting better
I just installed it through the get it now link in windows updates on a 8-9 year old acer and it seems okay
I've had it on a asus build for a while and still it was okay some little bumps with mostly corsair link and nvidia but it's okay most recent build that I know of although I rarely use 10
Did use the acer's 10 for 3 months before this morning and it updated well.

Im using macrium for now but i prefer RP because macrium even in differential is more slow and it will delete everything i made after the point of the snapshot while RP leaves all data.
Also Macrium is without encryption i hate this lack (even clozilla has it!).

I want to try a workaround uninstalling Get Office and its folders inside windowsapps folder (i can do it with a live cd) but no body here has ensure me that is safe to delete that folders even if they are from an uninstalled app :-(

Ps: too paranoid for installing CU so soon.

    - that's 'cos you haven't bought a license.

Free = no incremental imaging, no password or encryption etc..
You get what you pay for.

Why bother hacking Get Office? (I never see anything about it).
    - true.

  15. Macrium costs 60 euro... its not too much for what it offers but i need MORE than a single licence and i am not rich.

Free has differential backup that for me is almost good as the incremental but... no password.

Get office must be the reason of not working RP in anniversary.

I would try to delete its folders but i am not eniugh sure that this wont damage my OS.
