Now when it's official I could find no problems but during it's preparation there were some bugs of course. You can't really compare Insider versions (essentially beta) to finished product. Maybe not many exciting features to your average user but there's a lot of stuff under the skin. MS still didn't deliver all the updates they promised during famous introduction and are still pending. Maybe a bit overambitious in the beginning.

For me, the update did eliminate some errors but gained a new warning dealing with "Hello". Oh well!*Rolleyes

  3. Thank you! It annoys the hell out of me when people have issues with their own system, but decide to blame it on buggy software. Common sense. If it were buggy, all installs would be buggy...and all would have issues.

Not to mention there are billions of different combinations of hardware possible then add onto that a billion different possible combinations of software installed - "But if it doesn't work on mine than it's Microsoft's fault and Windows is crap! And I'm going to wait until Microsoft fixes it!"

Yeah, I know what you’re saying but think of it like this:
The guy wants a PC, there are thousands of variations on offer & he buys one.
Next thing is software. Once again there’s loads to choose from so he buys some & while he’s at it he adds a few peripherals.

So he’s now up & running & then Windows comes along with an update and borks his machine. He’s got a pile of work to do & data he needs to access. He’s got steam coming out of his ears & a lot frustration he needs to vent.

So where’s he going to go? The PC industry that sold him such a multi-configurable box? The software industry where he got his applications? The hardware people that offered him numerous add-ons & peripherals?
Of course he blames Microsoft and their update – what else can he do?

Now I have every sympathy for Microsoft, it must be a hell of a complex task dealing with millions of weird & wonderful configurations & they cannot be expected to achieve 100% success rate all the time. But you have to see it from Mr Punter’s point of view: his once fully working PC suddenly isn’t working anymore.

And all things considered, the problem is Microsoft’s because of the situation they’re working in. I know it’s not pleasant having to hear someone blowing off steam about how crap they are but unfortunately that’s the way things are.

  7. Updated mine last night, went smooth and without a hitch.

I'm not being very creative though...

Update went smoothly and fairly quickly yesterday but some settings were reset, some websites did not recognize my computer anymore and user names and passwords were wiped out, printer failed to communicate with the PC and finally a failed Windows security update for software I do not even have installed (Visual C++ 2005.) Some time and a little common sense got things back to where I wanted them although the printer issue took a little work.

On the plus side, once I delete the AU files (waiting a few days) and do a disk cleanup I will end up gaining a good 10+ GB of free space. Edge is working noticeably quicker and better and I like the new Defender Security Center, at the very least it opens up instantly from the taskbar as many times as you want it to. I have no real interest in the other new features.

All in all I'm happy that it's done and over with, no issues as of yet after sorting things out.

I think you hit the nail on the head. He's going to let off steam anywhere he can which considering ranting to people on the street might be seen as peculiar will most likely be an internet forum.

I get cross and post things I shouldn't sometimes, as does everyone I suppose, and I don't really care if others do as long as they aren't personally offensive.

Saying "Windows is crap" though (while understandable) is generally boring and unhelpful to read. A better phrasing would be "This crappy Windows, gosh, it is annoying me, can someone help with this SPECIFIC problem". Normally, I've found, someone can.

Apropos of nothing really, I was reading a recipe for baked cauliflower this morning on a newspaper site and there were dozens of moderated comments. Lots of people getting so worked up about a method of cooking brassica they had to swear and shout. It seems odd but I guess is human nature and not restricted to Windows operating systems.
