Creators update: now send page or link by email greyed out

Since the Creators update a few days ago the send link or page by email command is greyed out. This has happened previously after updates but I have sorted it by going into Control Panel and then programme defaults: then selecting custom option and setting Livemail as default mail service.
Now since update, selecting the program defaults option or any other option in Control Panel takes me to settings and the custom option page has gone. In settings Livemail is set as default mail app but this doesn't enable the send to commands and they remain greyed out.
Even worse, I can't use restore to go back to a "working" version of Windows 10 as somehow the update didn't create a restore point as the restore protection setting had been turned off which I didn't do!
Anyone have a way of getting this function working again? I use it several times daily (or did) and this is really annoying.
I found an option to revert to an earlier build of Windows but this warns some programs may have to be re-installed. Anyone know how much has to be re-installed? Do I lose all my programs, files etc.or what? This would be a nightmare.

    :)

  2. Send page and send link by email are greyed out

Since the last Windows updates were installed, the "email page" and "email link" are grey out in Internet Explorer. How can I fix this problem?

Ditto h ere. I have Outlook (from MS Office) as the default email client.

Is there a registry setting we should be changing?

    Please reply back.

    Thanks

System Restore is only relevant within a major build. It cannot, and never will, restore anything from one major build to a previous major build.

So by design, and quite rightly, all restore points are lost when you upgrade.

I agree with you it's annoying and seems wrong that it is disabled when you upgrade.

How can you revert to the previous build?
That's done by a totally different procedure e.g. via the Advanced startup options - 'Go back to the previous build'. This process uses Windows.old, which exists for 10 days after an upgrade.

    Please see
Go Back to the Previous Version of Windows in Windows 10 Installation Upgrade Tutorials

(Feel free to browse and search the extensive Tutorials section:

    )

    - I'm not sure quite what you mean by that. Screenshot please?

Hopefully have attached (if it worked) screenshot of greyed out commands for send link by email.
If I can't or dare not revert to previous version how do I sort this problem in Creators.
FYI I did not opt to "upgrade": I got a message that updates were about to be installed but this would take longer than usual. If I had known what Microsoft were doing I would have declined and turned off updates

Hi thanks, I don't use Livemail. However these links may help you to set this up again.

That seems to be in IE.
    http://www.winhelponline.com/blog/fi...rnet-explorer/
    and
It would seem you should be able to sort that out in Default Programs, Associate a file type or protocol (in Control Panel)
Send page option in IE 11 - Microsoft Community
    or within IE
Internet Explorer: How to enable feature?

It's unfortunate that in Home (I will assume that's what you have) you lack the controls available to Pro. I have updates set to Notify me so I can always (so far!) see the updates and choose when to apply them. Further, it is possible to delay upgrades for up to a year.

This appears to be very poor marketing strategy by MS- by default, updates are applied and your PC will restart if necessary without warning, bound to create acrimony, especially as it's not overtly stated that's what happens.

You do have Active Hours available to you to limit unexpected restarts.

These unexpected events can also compromise your backup strategy, depending on how often you update your disk image, for example. (We strongly advocate disk imaging- this allows you quickly and easily to go back to a previous working configuration (or even a Windows build) without technical help, even if your PC becomes unusable, or your disk fails). E.g. Macrium Reflect (free).

Had you used disk imaging, that might have helped somewhat, albeit you would then have to block the upgrade (using Hide Windows updates).

Thanks for the tries but no help. All the guidance brings up the previous custom settings page under control panel-set defaults/associate programs etc. It is this that has now disappeared. The only remaining options are under the settings options and Livemail is already set here as default mail client. If it helps, previously, just setting Livemail here would not restore the send to commands and they could only be restored under the custom setting page of control panel which now appears to have been removed. Now trying to follow through any Control Panel command or setting option eventually takes you to the new Settingss App.
I have managed to create an alternative route by using Chrome instead of IE and installing an extension app from the store which installs a page by mail funtion.
Are MS trying to move us to Chrome or what?

Creators update: now send page or link by email greyed out

Ah, so you're saying you don't now know how to access the Control Panel.
Some people with 1709 seem confused about that.
This can easily be resolved by searching for that.

    E.g.
Windows key + S, type Control, click Control Panel

Windows key + R, type Control Panel
    Powershell prompt, type Control Panel

And if you have a proper start menu - Classic Shell (free) - it's there on the start menu... easy!

You might also try searching for
    protocol
    in Settings

And in Settings, try the two links, bottom right here:

    Sorry but you misunderstood.
I can access Control Panel and step through the options but at the final selection it then takes me to the awful Settings App and the Custom Settings page has gone.
I have attached screen shot of the page now missing. Before the update setting the default mail app just in settings would not bring the send to commands to life, only the Customs Options page would do that. Now that option is gone and setting Livemail as default mail app in the new settings thing does not do it.
It seems that MS have removed the functions of Control Panel and bolted the front end of that to their awful settings app instead and functions have gone in the process.

@BJLilac, the title of your thread says 'Creators Update' but I think you must mean 'Fall Creators Update' (version 1709).

@dalchina can be excused for misunderstanding as he has avoided updating from 1703 to 1709. He hasn't (yet) experienced the big migration of functionality from Control Panel into the Settings app that comes with the FCU.

Yes, many of the links in Control Panel that used to open a Control Panel page have been switched to opening the Settings equivalent pages in the Fall Creators Update. The one you want is one of those, there is now no way in either Settings or Control Panel to open that particular page.

That doesn't mean it has been removed though, it's just been made inaccessible by normal means. It can still be opened directly in 1709 if you know its CLSID. Your page can be opened by running (either from WinKey+R or in a shortcut) the following command:

    explorer shell:::{2559a1f7-21d7-11d4-bdaf-00c04f60b9f0}

Their 'confusion' is justified, it is because the links in the Control Panel that used to open the Control Panel version of those settings have been changed in the FCU (1709) to now open the equivalent Settings app page. It is part of Microsoft's ongoing migration of Control Panel functions into the 'modern' Settings app.

Thanks all but as I was concerned that my 10 day window to revert was running out I decided to jump while I could and revert to the earlier build and all is now restored to running order.
What I need now is a way to allow updates to the current build without allowing the Creator to get itself in again.
    Any suggestions please.

You cannot hold back the tides of change forever. You are now back on (I assume) version 1703 (run Winver to confirm). That is actually the 'Creators Update' - the one you are trying to avoid is version 1709, the 'Fall Creators Update'.

If you have Pro, you can delay a Features Update (which is what you just experienced) for up to 365 days.

*Arrow Windows Update - Defer Feature and Quality Updates in Windows 10

If you have Home that option is not available, but you can hide the 'Features update to Windows 10, version 1709'.

*Arrow Hide or Show Windows Updates in Windows 10

However, time is running out for your version 1703. From the first tutorial link above....
...so your 1703 will stop getting any security updates after September 2018.
