"Critical Process died" BSoD on newest version of Version

    Hello everyone,

As the title states, my PC often crashes to a Critical Process died BSoD. I've encountered this issue with every Windows 10 version above 1607 and usually I'd roll back to it. But 1607 hasn't been supported for a good year now and so I need to stay on a newer version out of necessity.

I updated to 2004 using an in-place update since doing it normally wouldn't work for me. Since the issue started to appear again, I started to look into possible fixes again. So far, I have tried the following:

    • sfc /scannow
    • dism repair
    • Adjusting power settings PCI Express Link Power Management to off and AHCI Link Power Management to Active, turning off Fast Boot
    • Resetting BIOS settings
    • Running Driver Verifier 4 violations were found, which I uninstalled. This didn't solve the issue however
    • Clean Booting which helped my PC not crash - at least for an unusual amount of time - if I didn't interact with it. Using chrome during a clean boot would sooner or later result in a crash
    • Safe Booting without network drivers which just like clean booting prevented system crashes
    • Stress-testing CPU and GPU
    • Running Memtest
    • Installing latest Chipset, Graphics and Network adapter Drivers
    • Checked main C:\ drive health Samsung EVO 120 GB SSD: Drivers up-to-date and chkdsk comes up empty

What happens is usually the following:

Elements on-screen start to become impossible to interact with. Buttons and other elements still might animate but do not do anything anymore. Windows start to freeze entirely, sometimes with not responding displaying in their headers other times just closing on their. Windows OS elements then also start becoming impossible to interact with. Moving, opening and closing of windows on-screen becomes impossible. Items on the desktop disappear entirely then afterwards the same happens with the taskbar. The mouse however never freezes and always remains movable while this takes place. The sound will then either completely stop or produce a buzzing sound of the last millisecond that was outputted. The screen will then either go black for a few seconds or before showing the BSoD or go straight to showing it. No error code or any other info is displayed on the blue screen. The PC reboots, but despite having it set up correctly, Windows fails to create a Minidump. After these BSoDs I actually have to reboot my PC twice since the first time the C:\ drive doesn't show up in the BIOS. Rebooting always makes it show up again.

The blue screen usually comes up about 20 minutes after logging in. It is sporadic however; crashes have now often happened during me using Chrome, playing a high-demand game, such as HITMAN 2 hasn't crashed the system. I am unsure if having it open for longer would change that.

Event viewer lists a Kernel Power Event 41 63 at the time of the crash, with all EventData being null.

Any help would be much appreciated,

    Kind regards,

    Iannis

    :)

  3. BSOD - Critical Process Died

    Hi Tony,

The blue screen error with a stop code 'Critical Process Died' that you encountered can be caused by a recent update, device drivers that got corrupted or system files that got corrupted. For us to resolve your concern, kindly answer the questions below:

    • What changes were made or what updates were installed prior to the issue occurring?
    • Did you mean to say that you ran your device in safe mode when you said that you booted the device with only Microsoft Processes running?
    • Which version and build of Windows 10 is installed on your device?

As an initial recommendation, we suggest that you follow the steps on this
    link
to run the driver verifier. Driver verifier is an inbuilt tool in the Windows operating system, which helps you to test the drivers which may be corrupted. These corrupted drivers may contribute as to why you're getting a "Blue Screen of Death" (BSOD)
    or stop errors.

We look forward to your response to our queries.

    Critical process died BSoD loop

My alienware 17 R3 laptop apparently forced restart to update windows 10 earlier in the day and after the update finished it literally won't start up and is now stuck in Critical process died BSoD loop without me being able to enter safe mode.

Any attempt to entering safe mode results in another Critical process died blue screen and I've tried EVERYTHING that the net lists as a solution.

Tried going back to previous version of windows and it list an error, tried restoring from a previous point and it doesn't show up at all. Hell I tried a complete reset of the laptop and it gave me an error and said it cannot complete the process for god
    knows what reason.

This happened once on my older alienware 17 r3 and I had to get a replacement entirely due to the vendors not being able to decipher the root cause of the problem but one thing is for damn sure, everytime a windows 10 update happens my laptop potentially
    gets killed off...

Seriously, any suggestions? This is pretty frigging infuriating.
