Windows 10: Critical_process_died

Hello! My name is Paul. Recenty i tried to format a USB stick that i had Laying around. I formatted the volume in diskpart instead of through windows explorer, but stopped midway because I realized that I could just do it through windows explorer. It would be faster and easier. After formatting the drive through windows explorer, the drive disappeared entirely. Windows wouldn’t detect it. I looked through diskutil and diskpart and nothing showed up. Someone said that it probably was a driver issue, so I went into device manager and sure enough — there was a USB problem. The device was something like “USB serial fast.” Something like that. I can’t remember off the top of my head. It had an error next to it so I rightnclicked the device and uninstalled it, thinking that it would reinstall the correct driver. That didn’t fix my problem, the flash drive didn’t show up. The next thing I tried was a system restore. It stopped midway because of a file problem. After that I reset my computer and it bluescreened with the critical_process_died error. I troubleshooter for a little bit and tried to do a system restore, which didn’t work at all. It says that I must enable system protection on this drive. Which I can’t do since I can not boot into the OS. Is there any chance in fixing this computer? It’s a Surface Book 1, the i5 version. Any help is appreciated.

Critical_Process_Died BSOD

In order to resolve your concern, we suggest that you to follow these steps:

• If you've installed any new apps or devices, uninstall or unplug them and restart your PC.
• Make sure your PC has the latest updates:

• Go to the search box.
• Type Windows Update then Enter.
• Select Check for updates.
• In the Settings menu, select Check for updates button.
• When it's finished, restart your PC.

I understand the inconvenience you are facing with Blue screen error on Windows 10. We will help you with this issue.

Do let us know the following to assist you better with this issue:

• Were you able to see any error code along with the error message?
• Have you made any hardware/ software changes to the device prior to this issue?
• Have you checked if the issue persists on Safe mode with networking as well?

The CRITICAL_PROCESS_DIED bug check has a value of 0x000000EF. This indicates that a critical system process died.

Step 1: As you have performed SFC scan, found some corrupted and couldn't fix, try the below and check if it helps.

If you are not able to repair some files after performing SFC scan, I suggest you to refer to the point 3 “Windows Resource Protection found corrupt files but was unable to fix some of them. Details are included in the CBS.Log
%WinDir%\Logs\CBS\CBS.log”. Under the section “Run the System File Checker tool (SFC.exe)” to repair the corrupted files after performing SFC scan.

Step 2: If the issue still persists, I suggest you to perform DISM on your system to fix corrupted system files.

Step 3: I suggest you to install the pending updates on your device and check if it helps.

Steps:

• Connect to the internet.
• Press Windows key and type
  updates.
• Click on Check for updates.
• Under Windows Updates, click on
  Check for updates.
• Try to install the updates being shown.

Critical_process_died at startup


Several times since Windows 10 has been updated (see attached file) I have received a "Critical_process_died" notification. Sometimes at startup & at least one time during normal browsing. Have talked with a local computer shop about various problems & he suggested a clean install. Attached is the dump file per your instructions.
Appreciate any suggestions.
