Windows 10: Cumulative Update 1511 (KB3210721) stucks during restart

Hello TF,

Read some previous threads, but still couldn't resolve my problem. So, Cumulative Update 1511 (KB3210721) installs on background, then it asks for restart so "install can take effect". During restart updates fails at 17%, then it restarts, then it's "undoing changes" back and everything starts again, Groundhog Day.

I tried to delete everything from \SoftwareDistribution\Download, but didn't help.
Did troubleshoot using "run as administrator", downloaded update manually from catalog, uninstalled my AVG free, stopped Update Services through cmd, but same.
BTW had the same problem for weeks with Cumulative update *****86, but somehow Windows is not asking to install it anymore.
Windows 10 Enterprise, 64-bit.

Going back to 8.1

After my trial period I noticed a lot of issues with Win 10.

Since begin DecemberI have issues with my updates,

First with the Cumulative Update for Windows 10 Version 1511 for x64-based Systems (KB3198586)

Then this update was changed by Cumulative Update for Windows 10 Version 1511 for x64-based Systems (KB3210721)

But still the same issue/

Every day I loose 20 minutes because of this, and this almost for 3 months.

Games are not working or crashing after 10 minutes

So I had enough of Win 10.

How can I go back to my previous OS (8.1)?

You didn't mention your storage configuration so I will assume you have more than one drive as you are using a desktop.

There have been situations where some updates don't install properly and the solution has been to do the update with only the OS drive connected. At a minimum I would run chkdsk without any "fixing" parameters to see if it detects errors. Run on each drive. If found they will need to be addressed.

You might also want to run SFC /scannow from command prompt admin to see it it detects errors within your system. Post results.

Given you are on version 1511 and the Anniversary Update 1607 has been out for months are you restricting its installation?

If you haven't been restricting and are prepared to go to 1607 then I would look at using Macrium Reflect to make the appropriate Image, should you need to fallback. Better safe than sorry.

If the other tests above don't drive out issues and you can't install updates, and assuming your okay with 1607, I would follow this tutorial to upgrade to 1607.

Again I would have a proven fall back plan as some people have had issues with AU.
