  1. Cumulative Update failing

    Hi OldMike65,

Apparently I am not a whiz at using the DISM update method. I tried running it and I got an error 87

When I opened the Admin Command Prompt it looked like: C:\Windows\system32>

    Then I added: DISM.exe /Online /Add-Package /PackagePath:c:\desktop\KB4013429-x64.cab

As soon as it ran it put up error 87.

    Did I enter something wrong?:

    Thanks and regards,

Error 87, It's often because the command line isn't typed correctly. Are you sure you have a space before each /

  4. Cumulative Update failing

    Hi OldMike65,

No problem. I appreciate you trying to help but for one reason or another I couldn't pull it off.

However, knowing that, is there any way I can tell Win 10 to hide that Cumulative Update until next month's Cumulative Update comes out? Maybe I will have better luck with that one.

Have a great weekend. Hope your floor turned out good.

    Thanks and regards,

  6. Hi OldMike65,

Looks like some interesting reading. Is my memory really failing me or am I correct that in previous Windows edition it was possible to just hide any unwanted update or unhide one right from the Update page?

All I am trying to do is stop Microsoft from continuing to download and trying to install this failing Cumulative Update (KB4013429) on my computer until I can sort out the reason it is not installing correctly.

    Thanks for the link.

    Regards,

No, your memory isn't failing you, that's the way it worked in Windows 7. But MS decided to make Windows 10 updates automatic. Their reasoning was that allowing selective updates meant that every system would be different and support would be problematic.

The tutorial that OldMike65 linked to tells you how to download and use wushowhide.diagcab, a Troubleshooter that can be used to hide any update that may cause problems. It can hide KB4013429 and stop it repeatedly downloading, just as you ask.

    Hi Bree,

Thanks ... I intend to check it out until I can get to the bottom of my problem.

You may not need to sort it out, the Creators Update may well be out before get to the bottom of this.

I have used wushowhide to hide this update, not because it doesn't install, but because on some systems systems (mine included) it has bugs playing some types of videos.

  10. Hi Bree,

I hate to show my ignorance but what is the "Creators Update"?

    Thanks and regards,

  13. Cumulative Update failing

    Hi Bree and OldMike65,

I appreciate your added information about the Creator's Update. It really isn't something that lights my fire right now. I figure if I am having trouble loading a Cumulative Update I will probably never be able to handle that update ....lol

    But, thanks for the info.

    Thanks and regards,

Update would get to 99% and then fail. Windows Update repairs did not help.
Eventually resizing the Recovery partition on a SSD, to increase it by 4gb, allowed the update to succeed.

Thumbs up for Aomei Partition Assistant, Acronis TI, a Windows 10 repair disc, and sheer determination. *Wink
