You will never know because nobody is going to tell you. Maybe you'll find out that some bug was introduced that will probably be fixed with another update of which you will also have no clue what it does...

Sorry but this situation is unbearable to me. If MS does not adapt it's update information policy I'll have to quit Windows sooner or later. I simply cannot stand using a computer to store all my personal data and not knowing what MS does with it. I simply cannot trust such an operating system.

Storing your data is not dependent on OS.

Just restarted my laptop after getting this update. I hope someone posts a changelog or at least a link as I can't find one.

I think that problem is with not knowing in advance, later on may be too late. Not having a choice of installing updates is what most objectors object to.

How do you know that? Cumulative includes older updates but can have new ones, not tweaks to old one.

From working decades in the business world, I can assure you that when a company is doing something controversial, it won't talk about it. There's more behind Microsoft's secretive way of Windows-10 than what they've explained to the public. Do Microsoft's other products and devices contain update details?

  9. Did you check the computer manufacturer's website whether or not your machine supports Windows 10?

GWX sometimes says 'This computer is compatible with Windows 10' even when the computer manufacturer's website says 'not compatible'.

You could still go ahead with Windows 10 like I did, thereby burning out a power adapter, although it runs fine now after replacing the power adapter. It is/was a case of hardware incompatibility. Your machine may be another case of hardware incompatibility. If your factory-installed OS does the job, you may want to stay with that.

Of course it is. The OS (in my case Windows 10) is run on the computer in which my hdds are installed that contain my data. If this computer fails due to an update introduced and/ or if there is even a loss of data due to a system crash (unlikely but happens nonetheless) storing my data is directly dependent on my os.

What's more if MS installs updates on my computer that contain who knows what and they don't talk about it that's a huge threat to data security. The os has unlimited access to my data and so could MS if they installed the right tool with an update. Of which I would not know because they don't tell.... Seriously, does MS not realize that with their non disclosure policy they are actively destroying their customers faith in Windows? See, this is me writing such words, me who has been a Windows only user for more than 20 years. Me who always told people that Linux was not ready for the average John Doe and is only for people that consider it fun to mess around with computers. And now here I am, thinking about ditching Windows and switching to Linux. But I'm not the only one, you can see people all over the internet complaining about Microsoft's update policy. Sorry but to me the MS update policy is a complete fail, I'm so fed up installing "cumulative updates" that do this or that or nothing or...

It's a new PC I built myself, so it should be fine. All components (Skylake CPU etc etc) are Win10 compatible, apparently.

You can access data (I mean personal files, programs etc) on any media and OS crash will not trash that. Storing in cloud can also be retrieved with any other OS from anywhere wit almost any device. Offline backup is important for everything.
I'm sympathize with your (and my) frustration with unannounced updates, especially when without explanation in advance, I also like to be in complete control of my system but my regular offline backups I can access even from a live Linux so they are safe. Since early alpha of W8 I did not have a complete wipe-out of another online disk let alone offline backups.

I think the key here is that you mentioned hdds (plural). I assume you store your data separately from your boot HDD as do I. Therefor, while you are partially correct. I had a system crash a few years back. It taught me to back up everything and store my data on a separate HDD. I had a malware infection after that and lost no data as a result.

I installed the update few hours ago; it was a very fast process (it took 3 minutes to complete) and smooth no issue at all as i can see.
About the updates themselves: am I wrong or the"important updates" in W7 & W8 have always been generically descripted as "security patch" and "bug fix" and you had to dig deep in MS site to get some more also generic details?
