Important updates were always system and security patches, bug fixes while optional were usually driver updates and optional elements. Some descriptions of updates were very sketchy even than. You had to dig pretty deep to find out about details some of which were reachable only by small group of developers.

 

Exactly what i mean CM, thank you for the detailed descriptions *Wink not really more different then it is now, and except that "small group" all windows user have always updated without digging deep; and I am happy I always done that and i will still do it.

A quick note to say a big thank you to davidhk; your advice to download the iso from Tech Bench and point DISM to a virtual mount of the iso has worked a treat - all files restored and no more corruption errors in sfc /scannow.

Sure, but guess what: you need a reliable OS to not to depend constantly on endless external copies because you can't know when it's gonna crash or when Microsoft is going to suggest to do a clean install. I mean, we're talking about minimal stability here. I only ask for an OS which would be able to stay strong a few months in a row, even if gets some patches here and there. Since July, I just had to re-install Windows 10 three times. First one, when the icons trouble happened; second one, when trying to upgrade threshold 2 for the first time on my laptop (it ended up on a clean install), and third one, today, due to the inconsistent sfc corrupted files message. I mean... And no, I'm not an unconscious user.

At the end of the day, my feeling about we (the users) ending up being some kind of eternal beta testers, keeps going stronger and stronger. It happens with almost every kind of software nowadays, not only in Windows. Browsers are on a fast run for updates, OSs too. And in the meanwhile, we're just getting not 100% stable software. That pisses me off as hell.

Here's a strange one, Just did a check for updates and got this again ...

 

New update installed fine. Wish I could fix the Bluetooth button on the Action Centre though. It says Bluetooth is on yet all the services relating to it are stopped and I don't even have a Bluetooth adapter.

 

Me too. I can fix bluetooth button by moving it to among the top 4 in action center, but then my Airplane mode button takes on the same misleading behavior - I chose to leave the bluetooth button lit.

Yep bluetooth button is on and i don't have any bluetooth devices and I never use it! I can't switch it off

 

Might be some fixes but didn't find any difference!

 

If you check your services, you should see that Bluetooth service is STOPPED.....its not running....even if it is lit....

You can also disable it in your device manager also.

 

Try using Windows Update MiniTool. It gives you the option of installing updates or hiding updates should you choose. Just make sure you use it exclusively, forget the 'Windows Updates' in Settings.

I've used it for months and have had no problems - i've even ran 'Windows Updates' in Settings just to see if the same updates came up. They did. The MiniTool even had driver updates directly from the manufacturer to install which 'Windows Update' did not (possibly because i have it set not to install drivers not from manufacturer)

You even have the option of uninstalling updates should you need to. As for settings - Update Service, leave as 'Default' & Automatic Updates, set to 'Notification mode'
