    Cumulative Update KB3176938 Windows 10 build 14393.105

Tried all those things, nothing worked.

So, I decided to just go the easiest way, instead of trying to find why it didn't work. I mounted the 1607 ISO and ran the setup. After the installation, my Win10 version is at 105.

I uninstalled Visual Studio 2015 a couple of weeks ago and also all the other stuff connected to VS2015. By doing this, I probably uninstalled something which Windows 10 needed to make Windows Update work.

So, by doing a fresh installation, it should have fixed it all. I will know for sure when the next updates will arrive. *Wink

Good. Glad you're back up. Sounds like you did an in-place repair install, not a clean install.

Just curious, which VS2015 add-ons are you referring to? AFAIK... VS only adds the SDK's, not sure WU really cares about those?

BTW, upgrade install didn't solve my issues with AU, did clean install and it's coming up roses...

    Cumulative Update KB3176938 Windows 10 build 14393.105

My system was plagued by boot-up, freezing, and other strange issues after the Anniversary update. The latest update fixed all those issues and the system is now super stable again.

My system tells me that KB3176938 was automatically installed on 1 September, and that I am up-to-date with system updates, but I am still getting the same occasional stalling when the machine freezes for about 8 seconds, usually soon after startup or wakening.

I read recently that this is a known problem involving machines that had an SSD for the C: drive and with personal files (Documents, Pictures etc.) on a separate drive (in my case a 2 TB internal rotational drive). (My programs are also on the SSD). I was hoping that the above KB would solve it, but no luck.

Am I now stuck with this bug?

Would be nice if you have a tag similar to INSIDER, XBOX and INSIDER. Maybe call it WINDOWS REG for everyone else that doesn't have INSIDER.

Have to admit I struggle to differentiate all this insider, fast ring, build stuff. I'm only interested in regular Joe public builds/versions as I want the most stable / reliable bug free Windows experience possible. But things crop up and updates get mentioned etc and I often wonder why Windows update isn't offering updates until it clears up that it's insider only. I think Microsoft has just made things mighty confusing on this front.

Scotty...99.9999% of the world does not even know the Insider program exists. You are exposed to the chit-chat about all updates simply because you are a member of TF. You know, of course, that MS does not even offer Insider updates to the general public. You just hear about them here.

  10. Yes your right that the majority probably is unaware. And yes because I am on this forum I see a lot of stuff discussed. But it still can create confusion, at least it does occasionally for me. sometimes something will become a topic and it's not always apparent it's insider related. I think the point I was trying to make with MS is there are so many different versions of Windows and/or rings going on that it isn't that clear. Although I am not into trying insider stuff on my own machine as I have little spare time to be worrying about so many updates and even less to worry about bugs or side effects I try to take an interest in it. Just so I know what to expect. I watch carefully for news of public updates on here, so I am prepared that should I login I know one is coming. This forum does decent job of segregating it but on occasion it does confuse. And unfortunately as much as try with tech I do get confused easily!!!

Your point well taken. It happens a lot. Most of the time there is an assumption made that it is clear, not always true.

A nice post Scottyboy. As a regular visitor here it's all too easy to forget that most Windows 10 users don't even know what n Insider Build is.
    A good point mate *Smile

Actually, almost everything on TenForums is for the Regular Windows 10 user; if you look at the Ten Forums listing, it's already been separated into specific areas; there's really no need to ask the TF Team to go further (in my not so humble opinion). There is only one Forum that's specifically for Insiders; Windows Insiders. Figure out which you are and post accordingly.

This is going to sound rude, but I'm going to say it anyway. Everyone needs to understand the difference between being an Insider and a regular user. Learn which build you're on . . . the Build alone will tell you if you're using the Insider version or the End User version. If you are using Build 10586.xxx (July 29 Update) or Build 14393.xxx (2016 Anniversary Update), then you're an End User.

Someone on the Insider Program is, purely and simply, a Windows 10 Beta Tester. We're all gluttons for punishment. The Fast Ring is for those of us who like to live on the "bleeding edge" while the Slow Ring is for those who are of a more cautious nature, but still wish to be on the leading edge.

Watch Windows 10 News; the announcements are very clear as to what the subject is. When posting, give the Build you're using; since I'm an Insider, I will try to remember to preface my question or answer with the Build I'm on. IOW, I may ask this:

Insider Build 14905 - When clicking on the Power Button to shut down my machine, nothing happens. Is anyone else experiencing this?

FYI, in actuality, that was an issue with Insider Build 14905; however, with the release of Insider Build 14915, the issue was resolved.

I'd do the same if I were using the Anniversary Update Build 14393.xxx.

I'm grateful that John has seen fit to provide these forums at no cost to us. He is absorbing the cost, which in my estimation, must be considerable. I, for one, won't ask for more . . .

It's been unfortunate that the Windows 10 News section is now more about problems with both RTM and Insider versions, not so much about news anymore.
