    I happened to find this article on a yahoo search...if what it says is accurate, it gives the impression that even though my friend isn't running windows at all (on the inherited mac he just got) and even though it's long after the free upgrade deadline, that if he joined the Windows Insider Program, that as long as he stays in it, he could actually have a legit copy of windows 10 for free....assuming this is accurate of course...

    That may be the issue, I was on the Technical Preview for quite awhile before getting put on the Insider Preview Fast Ring.

    For a while, you had 3 choices: Fast, Slow or Release Preview.

    That's how I remember it too. But I'm one of the first Insiders.

    1 machine is on Insider-Slow; the other 5 are off Insider. Those will be one of the first to get the msu file, which is also downloadable from the Update Catalog.

    Presume nobody has seen this come through the normal channel of windows update for general public consumption yet? I'm guessing today being a Tuesday there's a chance it will come through later but seeing as it's patch Tuesday next week I guess it would be more logical to unleash it then in tandem with the normal monthly security updates
