Anniversary update : Windows 10 N version 1607, KB3192440, KB3198585 fail to install

Then I tried Cumulative Update for Windows 10 Version 1607 for x64-based Systems (KB3206632) but that said it was not for my computer.





And I also tried the one you told me last time Cumulative Update for Windows 10 Version 1607 for x64-based Systems (KB3213522) but that displayed the same error message.

 

Windows 10 version on Media Creation Tool

Newest one 1607 build 14393.0. Running Windows updates once should bring you to build 14393.577 which is December stable.

 

Is this on Windows update? My machines aren't finding it. Bit of a surprise for Christmas. Not a nice one though!

KB3213522 is not available via Windows Update. You will need to manually download and install this update instead.

 

Yes sorry, I just realised my error! Too hasty, kind of glad it's not tumbled down the pipes via Windows update as wanted a Christmas free of updates! Have a good Christmas mate!

The latest opt-in CU is only for those afflicted with the virtualization-based security (VBS) issues that it addresses, correct? Others don't need to download and install this, I'm guessing?

I understand this is about virtualization-based security (VBS), but there is something similar called Visual Basic that's used in VBScript; Maybe it's a stretch, but would you know if this has any tie-in with VBScript?

On the one hand this article: https://What's new in Windows 10 security | technet.microsoft.com describes hardening security using VBS.

On the other, VBScript is used in a lot of what's described in the above link, such as; Defender, Device Guard, Briefcase, Bitlocker, and Passport.

That article also describes how Hypervisor Code Integrity (HVCI) and Local Security Authority (LSA) work in the mix, I have LSA on my 7box, no HVCI, but I'll have to check my 10box to see if there's any HVCI there.

It'll have to wait though, in a few hours we're going over to the family's tonight to make merry. To paraphrase Clement Clark Moore

BTW, I recommend this update to everyone even if you think you don't need it.
As an aside observation, funny how "Disk Cleanup" can get so confused. Showing 3.9TB to be cleaned on one install and nothing on a few others even though there was close to a Gb to remove nonetheless.....
