Windows 10: Cumulative Update KB4015438 for Windows 10 v1607 Build 14393.969

Totally agree. Not impressed that have to go through this shenanigans twice in under a week because of MS dismal QA. But surely this should be a small, quick update for those who updated last week.

 

Just my theory, but as the cumulative update gets bigger and bigger, it takes longer for the sys to determine what needs to be DL'd and updated. After Creators is out, the Cumulative will start over with a new base size, and..........rinse, repeat......

Sounds logical - I hadn't thought of it like that!

 

This one took a bit longer than other recent cumulative updates have taken on my PCs. But so far no overt problems have shown up. Do you think they're making up for no cumulative update in February with 2 in March?

Nope. This one was just an out-of-band to fix an issue in the previous.

• Addressed a known issue with KB4013429 that caused Windows DVD Player (and 3rd party apps that use Microsoft MPEG-2 handling libraries) to crash.
• Addressed a known issue with KB4013429, that some customers using Windows Server 2016 and Windows 10 1607 Client with Switch Embedded Teaming (SET) enabled might experience a deadlock or when changing the physical adapter’s link speed property. This issue is most commonly seen as a DPC_WATCHDOG_VIOLATION or when verifier is enabled a VRF_STACKPTR_ERROR is seen in the Memory dump.

 

Thank you! Installed it on both of my Win10 computers, and Windows Media Player works again! Yay!

 

About 6 mins to download, same again 'preparing to install', around 12 minutes configuring updates and then following a restart around 1 minute to complete the final configuration. Dell laptop with i5 processor and Crucial SSD. 4Gb RAM.

 

You really need a spare machine to play around with on the Insiders Fast Ring. That would soon get rid of your paranoia surrounding everyday cumulative updates Scttyboy *Smile

I was just wondering what the insider programs are all about. I thought it was for testing updates so problems like KB4013429 showed up before released to public. Why wasn't this error caught???

 

My Desktop is taking forever to do this update. We have an older Laptop that didn't take this long for this update and I did them at the same time. The Desktop has a 1TB Hard Drive. Would that by why it's taking so long?

 

It didn't take as long as the usual monthly update to download or to install, but when I restarted each computer, it took a heckuva long time until the computers configured the update and got to the opening Windows screen. Worth it though, to get Media Player working again!
