On my parents’ Acer desktop, The CU is at downloading 100% for almost half an hour. Nothing has moved but I did check Task Manager and Local System is showing activity. Not sure if I should leave it alone or what.

Now it’s installing. Does seem weird it took so long.

I have had a couple of hassles with the Malicious Software Removal tool...

On two VMs, initially it said the download failed and after the cumulative update was completed after reboot a check for updates allowed the KB890830 to be installed and successfully ran. These two machines have Bitdefender 2018 Internet Security. The run of the tool successfully completed in about 7 mins, which is as occurred for previous updates.

On the only physical PC, the Windows Malicious Removal Tool was stuck at 0% installing for well over a hour with no identifiable activity via task manager. So I ended up restarting the PC to see if that would allow things to get moving. The cumulative update successfully completed along with the flash player update and I am at 1709 16299.64. This PC uses Windows Defender and no third party anti virus software.

In the view installed update history it has the following entry:

Windows Malicious Software Removal Tool for Windows Insider Preview and Server Technical Preview x64 - November 2017 (KB890830)
    Failed to install on 15/11/2017 - 0x8024001e

I have run Windows update troubleshooter and no outstanding issues remain, rebooted a couple of times but still not offered a replacement update for the failed one.

For completeness, would like to have this last step successfully completed...so I would appreciate advice as to resolve this issue.

I did look in C:\Windows\System32 and MRT.exe and MRT-KB890830.exe have date modified of 15/11/2017 8:53am which was when I was doing the updates...so not sure if it got stuck installing or just running. This has not been a problem previously on this machine.

    Any suggestions to resolve please?

    Thanks
    Peter

You're not the only one. I'm not in the Insider program and I'm getting the same. It wouldn't surprise me if they don't actually have a separate version for 1709 yet and are just lumping us in with the Insiders 'til they do.

Thank you f14tomcat and GreenReaper and all who have commented. I was very hesistant when I was Getting 1709 update for "amd64-based Systems" despite Intel chip. Now I know that amd64-based Systems (KB4048955) is an appropriate, if bug-named, update for yourcomputer, as is
Windows Malicious SoftwareRemoval Tool for ***Windows Insider Preview and Server Technical Preview x64***- November 2017 (KB890830) is a buggy name, too. At least it has worked so far.

  5. I'm about to download the KB4048955, latest CU for W10 1709 FCU manually from the catalogue. I'm confused now because I see they've added something called 'Delta' Update. What's the difference between the Delta and the normal CU? Which one should I download?

    I'm currently on FCU 1709 - Build 16299.19.

    EDIT:

Ok,..I quickly Googled and learnt that the Delta updates are just the files you need since the last update rather than downloading the whole Cumulative again.

As it has given error, I have downloaded it manually and when executing it it says that I have thousands of virus (WTF!!! It's fake). I have Malwarebytes Premium installed. Windows update has crashed this month.

LOL. I have almost more infected files than files on the computer. It's fake.

The failure must have noticed to Microsoft. From where I downloaded manually the Malicious Software Removal Tool, the links no longer work.

@wyxchari I don't have this issue on my Malwarebytes Premium. *Wink

I received both updates, but I'm manually updated KB4048955.

    I noticed the same thing.
If you go check the "View installed updates history" after updates are installed and restarted, you will notice that the Insider Preview update KB890830 is NOT on the installed list.
Apparently the system knows that we don't need it. Why it was offered via WU is a mystery.
That said, I can't say I am surprised. WU has been downloading and installing Microsoft Office 2010 updates in this particular computer which does NOT have Microsoft Office programs installed. This computer NEVER had MS Office 2010 installed since I bought it 10 years ago.

I got the FCU on my Lenovo Miix 320 tablet. Why the full layout touch keyboard disappeared? It was on version 1703, why not any more? *Devil
