    Hello everyone,

    I'm still at 16299.19
When I run Windows Updates, I get "Your device is up to date." Been waiting since Tuesday for things to change and it hasn't.

    I'm located in South Asia.

Should I download and install 16299.64 manually from Microsoft Update Catalog?

  2. First thing to check if you get "Your device is up-to-date" is either "winver" in the run box. It should indicate that your are at Version 1709 (OS Build 16299.64) or your update history where you should see KB4048955. Then, if none of those are present, you should try the Microsoft Update Catalog.

After checking through "winver" and update history, the result is negative.

Will wait until Wednesday for 16299.64 to download automatically. If it still doesn't happen by then, will then get it from Microsoft Update Catalog. It's bizarre to experience something like this for the first time.

    Thanks.

  5. Same, after several failed attempts, WU no longer offers it, either MS has pulled it off or it has realized, it is futile. *Smile

That's exactly what I get! Glad to know I'm not the only one.

  7. This must be something that is either location or hardware dependent:
I am still in the same boat as before i.e.
    1. Windows STILL offers update 4048955
    2. I let it download and install.
    3. As requested, I restart the machine.
    4. Machine goes through about a half dozen iterations of trying and failing to install, rolling back and re-starting.
    5. Eventually machine reboots but when I check Windows Update, this update is still being offered.

  9. 1-3. Same thing is happening to me.
    4. It did this update 5 days ago, no failures to install.
    5. No longer being offered.

Well, others have reported if you clean install PRO now on a pc, with embedded bios 8 core key, it no longer automatically installs Home, and you can choose version during installation.

So as an experiment I tried to clean install PRO on a laptop as dual boot, and it still installed Home. I tried again with ei.cfg file added, and I was then able to select version.

Well, they did it to me again! I let Microsoft update all my systems to W10 1709 and now Network Discovery is flaky again.

One machine, my home server, does not show up in the network on any of my systems, in fact, it does not show itself under Network! One of the other systems takes forever to get discovered and sometimes does not get discovered at all until I reboot and hope!

Luckily, I have all the Home Server drives mapped on all the other systems so it is not a total disaster. All of the systems on the network are running W10 1709. I have checked all the usual stuff and it seems OK. The last time I ran into this issue the Windows update made several of the machines Public! Any ideas on what else I should be looking at to get the network back to where it was prior to 1709 would be appreciated.

I had a similar problem. I had discover checked in all networks. Like you I did everything that I could think of. What I finally did was, in settings> Network> click on reset network. It said PC will restart in 5 minuets. When it did, it came up with a box on the desktop that said, Do you want this PC to be discovered. I click yes, and it fixed it.

    Clint,

Thank you for the suggestion. It worked for me too. I don't know what MSFT is doing but it seems like ever since the second or third major updates to W10 there have been problems with network discovery - some worse than others. I'll add the Network Reset to the bag of tricks to have available for the next W10 update! Thanks again.

  14. This update was installed on my HP laptop yesterday morning. It caused me many problems. My browser lost all of it's bookmarks, my Start Screen lost all the tiles that I had setup, it caused most of my programs to be lost. My computer basically looked like a brand new Win 10 install had happened, just a few items on the Taskbar and a few icons on the desktop. I attempted to uninstall this update, only to now have a computer that wants me to put the Win 10 media in to either repair or install Win 10. My next step will be to remove the drive to recover as much of my data as I can, and then to reinstall Win 10, doing a Format of the drive as I do it. This is not the first time that an update has caused me problems. I sometimes wonder if these updates are tested before being dumped on us.
