  3. You said above that it is the first time you have a bug like this one. You must think about what you have changed or installed since *192? That one is not their best.

Over the last 18 months, our average with MS Catalog is 100%. When we don't succeed, the problem is always 15 inches in front of the monitor.

    Think about it!

    This worked for another user:

I installed Windows anew using the thumb drive I created. Of course, using the option to keep all files apps and settings. After that, I let Windows update run its course. It found KB4058258, installed it and after the reboot it was on 16299.214.

Attempt 1 took 10 minutes and after restart message says update not installed.>System restore
Attempt 2 took 5 minute and initially appeared to work but had some funny issues with firefox and my LAN was inaccessible > system restore.
Attempt 3 took about 15 seconds, did not restart but seems to be working properly.

After the last major update always seem to have problems now with these updates.

  7. This worked for me:

In place install from downloaded iso file.
    Windows10_1709 (16299.15)_x32_x64.iso

Upgraded to 16299.214 from downloaded msu file.
    Windows10.0-kb4058258-x64_16299.214.msu

    UPDATE
This works, too, but takes as long or longer.

    1. Uninstall KB4056892
I had 2 of these. Uninstalled both. Requires a restart.
    2. Dism.exe /online /Cleanup-Image /StartComponentCleanup
    This takes a long time.
    3. Start the regular windows update, to let the OS find its updates (it will reinstall ..892)
It didn't for me & WU found no updates
    4. Install KB4058258from downloaded msu file.
This takes a very long time. Wait it out.

    Cumulative Update KB4058258 Windows 10 v1709 Build 16299.214 - Jan. 31

Two out of four PC's it fails due to AMD CPU. Had to manually update it. Stinky MS should do better.

Man, one old PC just will not install it no matter what. Will have to clean it up and spill some magic dust around, maybe a magic won. It will not install either by update or download and setup. It has an older AMD chip so maybe MS just don't like us anymore. Maybe those Unix guys are right.

  10. My two Intel Core-i3's did the same thing as my one AMD. Update as I described above.

Why did you go to such great lengths just for a botched ms patch? It will probably be fixed the install issue in the next cumulative update

If you have an AMD processor, you are one patch behind schedule and you should try the194 one.

There is also a new security patch for Adobe Flash that you may try first to see if the standalone installer works.
