I have the same behavior and I do have "Allow downloads from other PCs" disabled.

However I've had this disabled for months, and Quality updates have always been detected and installed normally by Windows Update.

The problem seems to be started after I set to exclude drivers via Group Policy editor.
Not sure this is the culprit tho, because the problem is still present, even with the option back to the "normal" state of "Not configured".

Was greeted with a message saying something about a "new update now available" after letting my PC sit idle for a while. I have never seen that before, but everything seems normal after restart. This one didn't poop out like the last one, thankfully.

  3. This update is much better than Build 162989.251.
All 7 computers are updating with Windows Update instead of needing to use the downloaded msu file.
The older ones required more than one restart.

What solution? I have my operating system updated(Build 16299.309) but the message that appears in the history is: requires a restart to finish install.

Try the Reset Windows Update in Windows 10 tutorial.

  9. Does this update include all previous updates?

Yep, it's called a cumulative update for a reason I think. *Smile

  11. Cumulative = increasing or increased in quantity, degree, or force by successive additions.

    @3Colors and yellowdog.

Let's see if the Windows Update troubleshooter can diagnose the issue. Also, let's run a startup repair and then check the behavior of your device. Go to Settings > Update & security > Recovery > Advanced startup. From the Advanced startup screen, click Troubleshoot > Advanced options > Startup Repair.
It is also possible that the system’s data store and the download folder got desynchronized, resulting in your Windows Updates not working properly. Let's try clearing the Software Distribution folder where all of the updates are stored. Doing so will force Windows Update to download fresh. There’s nothing vital here. Windows Update will recreate what it needs the next time you run it. Please note that doing this will also result in losing your Update history. Moreover, the next time you run Windows Update, it will result in a longer detection time.
First, you'll need to stop the Windows Update related services by following these steps:

    • Right-click on the Start menu and select Command Prompt (Admin).
    • Type the following command one after the other and hit Enter:
    net stop wuauserv
    net stop cryptSvcnet stop bits
    net stop msiserver
Then, follow these steps to empty the Software Distribution folder:

    • Launch File Explorer and navigate to: C:\Windows\SoftwareDistribution\Download
    • Delete everything within the folder. Do NOT delete the folder itself.
    • Restart your computer and give Windows Update another try to see if the issue still exists.
Now, let’s restart the Windows Update related services by typing the following commands one after the other and hitting on Enter in Command Prompt (Admin):
    net start wuauserv
    net start cryptSvc
    net start bits
    net start msiserver
To close the Command Prompt (Admin), type Exit and hit on Enter. Restart the computer.

    Note:
I did not do the Startup Repair. I was afraid it would disable some of my free giveaway apps I have installed.
I started at the steps to stop the services and then I chose the option to deleted all the files and folders inside the C:\Windows\SoftwareDistribution\Download.

    This worked for me!

Sure it is personal choice but Macrium Reflect Free is extremely reliable and only time I have heard of issues (not me personally) is when there is a rare issue with VSS, in which case it stops with an error message.

This is not entirely accurate. Cumulative updates can actually be smaller, as old unecessary updates (due to later update) are dropped. In many cases one update simply replaces an earlier one. As a result, the cumulative updates do not necessarily grow in size, and can be smaller.

  15. A question was asked about Cumulative Updates including ALL updates -- and I don't think that is really the case, as if it were, then that would mean that I could install Win10, the original version, run this ONE update, and I would have ALL the Windows Updates that have been applied for over two years!

Instead, what I think is means that, on Patch Tuesday, instead of MS providing a bunch of Windows Updates, they provide only ONE. And if that is true, this means that this update is only ALL the updates for the week.

IF anyone knows for sure, I would like to hear back.
