Cumulative Update KB4556799 Windows 10 and Cumulative Update KB4556813 Windows Server 2016...

The patches mentioned in the subject KB4556799 and KB4556813 are both causing the same issue on my Windows 10 workstations and Server 2016 Remote Desktop Session Hosts.

We create a local printer port that maps to a network drive. This is for legacy ANSI printer support from a 30 year old system. We output data from an SSH session Unix servers to a word document located on a mapped network drive of the workstation. Everything was working fine until these patches were installed. The patches are causing the machines to delete the local printer port. Here's what I'm seeing from powershell:

"Get-PrinterPort" will show me that the port exists X:\Report.doc

If i reboot the workstation/server or even restart the spooler service restart-service -name spooler then the port is gone

I can manually add the printer port back add-printerport -name X:\Report.doc and the ANSI printing will continue fine. Obviously, a reboot of the machine or restart of the spooler service causes the port to disappear again. I have removed the patch from the workstations and servers and I have also declined the update from our WSUS servers. I have confirmed that removing the patches "resolves" the issue. This is not a long term solution since these are CUMULATIVE updates.

My hope is that somebody from Microsoft is monitoring this forum and will respond with an appropriate fix. These 2 particular cumulative updates directly make changes to the print spooler service according to the following Microsoft article: https://portal.msrc.microsoft.com/en-US/security-guidance/advisory/CVE-2020-1048

    :)
