A question for you Caledon Ken?
Reading the link you suggested to repair Windows it seems it could take most of the day to perform the commands at each step to restore. Anywhere from 10-15 to a few hrs to perform.
Would it not be faster to do a non-destructive reinstall to repair the "Component Store problem" and keep all my apps intact then to do all those steps?

Also, is the command below safe to use and not delete my registered installed apps?

    "DISM.exe /Online /Cleanup-Image /RestoreHealth /Source:C:\RepairSource\Windows /LimitAccess"

    * Where C:\ would be my usb drive with the newest version of windows install with the Creation Tool.
Or I can mount the iso file and execute from the Desktop for non-destructive reinstall.

I want to be as sure as possible before doing these step commands that everything is still intact *Smile

    thanks

Ok I took the plunge and 1/2 hr later the non-destructive reinstall fixed the problem. I now have all the recent updates and everything is back to normal.
I would like to thank you all for your replies. I greatly appreciated the help this Forum provides. Maybe the fixes suggested here will fix many users problems, I wish you all the best!

    thanks again

Cool. Could you explain what you mean by non-destructive re-install. What steps did you take. There is the inplace upgrade or the Advance startup options. There is yet another posting with another member having issues. If you could clarify. Then maybe hook on to that thread and post a link back here.

    Hi Ken,
I downloaded a new copy of the Media Creation Tool and then selected "create installation media for another PC. I selected the ISO option and saved to my downloads folder. I then double-clicked on the Windows.iso file and that mounted the iso so I could select the setup.exe file. I executed the setup.exe and followed the screens to install. I selected "Keep Windows settings, personal files and applications" That is the key to non-destructive reinstall i believe,
Only took about 1/2 hr and I was up and running again and then I checked for updates and all went smooth. I am now up to date with 14393.969.
I am glad it worked out for me after 2 days of trying the suggested fixes here that should have worked but would not.
I thank you all for your expert opinions and hope that if all else fails then maybe suggest the non-destructive reinstall that may work for some. Note, we all take the chance and hope it works but I always have the doubt that anything we try could crash our system and we end up doing a complete install. I always backup my important files first. I have had that happen before *Sad
I hope that explains how I managed to fix my problem. If you need more please let me know.

    Thanks again for your help
    Cheers

    • sfc /scannow 2. dism /online /cleanup-image /startcomponentcleanup 3. dism /online /cleanup-image /restorehealth 4. Run these commands using an administrative prompt(windows button + x) 5. Repeat them if no success firts time. They take some time to run time so be patient and restart after running each command.

Thanks for the reply. I have done those commands many times as well as many other suggestions here but none worked for my system. I finally done the non-destructive reinstall and was successful and all is still intact and updates are working properly.

    cheers
