    Cursor invisible/frozen

I am using a Lenovo Ideapad touchscreen laptop with WIndows 10. I don't use a USB mouse and I don't have one on hand, I just use the trackpad. A few hours ago my pointer disappeared completely from my screen. I'm not positive, but this may have coincided with some accidental button-pushing that resulted in a keyboard language change, which I've since resolved. I've restarted multiple times, and sometimes the pointer will reappear during startup, frozen in the centre of the screen, but will disappear again within a couple minutes. Sometimes it seems to be unfrozen but invisible, because if I click around at random, I can see it interacting with things apps will be selected, etc. Other times there is no response. To no avail, I have tried: Fn3/5/9/11, updating drivers both with the automatic scan and by downloading the correct driver directly from the Lenovo site, doing a clean boot, running an SFC scan, turning on/off various mouse settings snap-to, ctrl to show pointer position, etc, uninstalling the Synaptic pointing device whereupon the system reverted to what is apparently the Windows default pointer, which moved very slowly and would not click on anything, and restarting the computer set everything back to using the nonfunctional Synaptic device, as well as a handful of other random things I found suggested online. I'm stumped!

    :)

  2. Frozen Cursor

Thanks, but the stumbling block for re-installing drivers is the frozen cursor. I manage to open the Device Manager by typing in the Search Box in the Taskbar of Windows 10 Technical Preview. But with a frozen (or invisible) cursor, I can't navigate to the 'Mice and other pointing devices' to open it, etc.

Previously, I tried to re-install the original OS (Windows 7 Starter) but I couldn't do it because of the same frozen (or invisible) cursor problem.

I am thus basically looking for a way to re-install either drivers or OS without using the cursor.

Why do you have to stick with the touchpad? Use a mouse just until you got it sorted out. Then go back to touchpad. Get a cheap one from dollar store. It's always handy to have one.

    Frozen Cursor

    Thanks for the welcome!

Unfortunately, after doing the procedure several times, the cursor is still frozen. The cursor sometimes disappears. Sometimes, a message on the bottom right hand corner of the screen slides in (and out) saying that I need to click it and re-enter my Microsoft account password. Of course I can't click the message with the frozen or invisible cursor.

    Any further ideas?
