    Custom keyboard layout uninstall/duplicating problem

On Windows 10 64 bit amd computer.

I added a keyboard layout and then made another, not sure how it happened but now whenever I add layout two it adds layout one instead.

I've tried reinstalling layout one and removing it, creating a totally new layout and installing that. using regedit to remove the "ghost" entry, but I'm left with layout one referring to my new layout's .dll as it's own and doing nothing for my keyboard. It duplicates with every keyboard layout install and the setup.exe for every layout I've made crashes after the first install attempt (but the .msi works). I don't see any matching .dll in system32, and there is no install entry in the control panel. I may not have the same source file for the original layout (I was experimenting).

How do I uninstall the layout?

    [HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SYSTEM\ControlSet001\Control\Keyboard Layouts\a0030409]
    "Layout Text"="United States-(Custom)"
    "Layout File"="*******.dll"
    "Layout Id"="00c1"
    "Layout Product Code"="{*****}"
    "Layout Display Name"="@%SystemRoot%\\system32\\*******.dll,-1000"
    "Custom Language Name"="English (United States)"

    "Custom Language Display Name"="@%SystemRoot%\\system32\\*******.dll,-1100"

    [HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SYSTEM\ControlSet001\Control\Keyboard Layouts\a0020409]
    "Layout Text"="United States-(Custom2)"
    "Layout File"="********.dll"
    "Layout Id"="00c2"
    "Layout Product Code"="{***}"
    "Layout Display Name"="@%SystemRoot%\\system32\\********.dll,-1000"
    "Custom Language Name"="English (United States)"
    "Custom Language Display Name"="@%SystemRoot%\\system32\\********.dll,-1100"

    :)

    Laptop Keyboard layout issue .

    Hello,

To assist you better please answer the questions below.

    • What is the make and model of your laptop?
    • Which version of windows is running on your laptop?
    • Have you installed all pending updates on your laptop?
    • What issue are you facing while creating system restore point?

    Method 1: Keyboard Layout settings.

Your keyboard layout might be set for a different language than the one you want to use. To change the key board layout:

    • Click on Start menu, go to Settings and select Time and Language.
    • Go to Region and Language.
    • Click on Add a Language.
    • Select the language from Keyboard from the list.

    Method 2: Uninstall the drivers.

Uninstalling the keyboard driver will not cause any serious problem, and the generic driver will automatically get re-install once you restart the computer after the uninstalling.

I suggest you to uninstall the drivers from Device Manager, restart the system and download the latest Keyboard drivers from the manufacturer’s website and try installing them on the system.

Follow these steps to un-install the drivers:

    • On the search bar type “Device Manager
    • On the left pane locate “Keyboards” and expand by clicking on it
    • Right on the “Keyboards” option and click “Uninstall’
    • Download the latest drivers setup file from the manufacturer’s website and install it.

Hope this information is helpful. Please do let us know if you need further assistance, we’ll be glad to assist you.

    Hi,

It is possible that you need to configure your keyboard layout that is why you still see it in the list even you already remove it. To address your issue, we suggest that you follow the steps on this

    thread
provided by DikkeryDok last October 27, 2017 to remove the specific keyboard layout you are referring to.

Custom keyboard layout with Windows 10

Thanks to all for your help.

Actually MKLC 1.4 files work fine with Windows 10. Indeed, language bar disappears, after you change keyboard layout to the custom one. But, once you
log off and and then log on again the language bar re-appears, and everything works great. The only minor nuisance is that there is no preview in language settings, but I can happily live without that Custom keyboard layout uninstall/duplicating problem :)

    An alternative:
    Keyboard Layout Manager.
Works with Windows 10, despite it isn't mentioned there. It can duplicate an existing dll and modify it. This time the layout preview works, but there is no installer, therefore porting it to another computer isn't straightforward.
Also I didn't try Keyboard Layout Manager with "dead" keys

    (MKLC supports them OK).
