Windows 10: Custom (Translucent) Screen Saver?

adding a custom screen saver to windows 10 seems pretty straightforward, and there's no shortage of sites dedicated to screen saver downloads, but is there such a thing as a translucent screen saver that, once it kicks in, allows your desktop to still be visible, albeit behind the translucent screen saver?

windows 10 desktop installs don't seem to offer the "dim display after" feature found in laptop installs, and it's a feature i would really like for my desktop, i.e. i want the screen to dim after x amount of minutes, not turn off or be replaced by a screen saver that covers my desktop, i want to still be able to see my desktop, but just barely...

so i was wondering if this could be accomplished by using a "translucent" screen saver? is this possible? or do screen savers completely replace the desktop, i.e. it doesn't matter if they're translucent or not, the desktop won't be visible once the screen saver kicks in?

When I take photos i get a translucent screen with Exposure, Apeture Shutter Speed and Digital Zoom appearing over my photo.



How do I stop this from happening. It just started...

Blue rectangle suddenly appeared on only one screen of three when I booted up

This morning after I booted up I turned on my other two screens (normally I just use one until I need more work space) and one of them now has a blue rectangle centered on the screen. Efforts to find answers include: turn off an accidentally turned on narrator
(cap lock + esc). Didn't work. Go into Control Panel > System and Security > system > Advanced system settings > Custom > Uncheck and recheck "show translucent selection rectangle". Didn't work.

Any hints at how to get rid of this nuisance would be much appreciated.

 

update:

the small utility "shadenow" does exactly what i want in terms of dimming the screen while keeping the desktop visible, but the settings don't stick after a reboot... power dimmer is another small utility that looks like it does exactly what i want, but it doesn't appear to work with windows 10 desktops... there are also a couple of other "dim display" utilities but they can't be timed to kick in after x amount of time, instead they're a dim / don't dim proposition... anyway, given that shadenow seems to be able to accomplish this, it would seem that it would be possible to accomplish it though windows 10 screen saver as well...
