People also lurk and find answers for themselves, or call support, or contact that 'friend' that MS suggests.

  2. That's because most new pc owners are simply put "Lazy" buying a pc for checking the inbox and yapping on the social networks when not on a smart phone these days! If something breaks they end up being dumbfounded for the most part.

For the Windows "Fan" or "Geek" on the other hand especially those who custom build their own desktop cases as well as take of the OS problems they are far more likely to look for and post questions in order to get answers for things if not able to find out for themselves.

That's where you end up at the opposite end of the totem pole when it comes to experienced vs dumb founded. not including everything in between expert and .... "Uninformed"?! Yet I've seen enough uninformed still find their way onto forums like these! Uninformed novice users still doesn't qualify as being dumb however! "Lacking in Experience" is the much better suited expression.

Same old repetitive, I want this, I want that, what can I do on W10 that I cannot do on W7.
Some want to hang on to their teddy bear, whilst other seek technological advancement.
The answer is simple, you have a choice if you don't like W10, there other options.
Please, post your moaning whining and dissatisfaction on the appropriate forum, not on W10.

You must not like this entire thread.

I suggest if you don't like what you see then don't read it. It's simple, you have choices and other options.*Biggrin

It's a windows 10 issue that has affected other window's users. You only use 1 OS, and that being Win 10, and that is the reason for being so glib?

    Or you are just misinformed.

"Perceived" privacy concerns. What most people don't understand is that this is really nothing new. This is just Microsoft TELLING YOU what they're doing, and giving you the opt out. They used to do this stuff for years, without telling you and no opt out.

I have a friend who said he was going to switch internet hosting companies. I asked him why. He said, they have too much downtime.. so I went and checked things out... statistically they had better uptime than any of the providers he wanted to switch to, but those providers didn't release regular reports on their downtime and give notices when they occurred (even if it was only for a few seconds and affected only a small percentage of their customers). The company he used did.

In other words, because the company was so transparent and up front about their level of service, the impression was created that they had poor service, while the competitors who had worse service were looked at as better options... because they kept their mouths shut.

People need to learn that EVERYONE is doing this. Microsoft isn't going to change, they're just making you aware of it.

Most of what MS is doing they are doing in Windows 7, but they're not telling you they are. Windows 10 actually gives you MORE control than Windows 7 does in this regard.

Since the vast majority of Win10 users didn't pay for this operating system, why should Microsoft give a rat's arse what we think? It's not like we can bring it back for a refund.

Anyway, this report Where does Microsoft make money? (Updated 2013) | Tanner Helland (dot) com says that 70% of Microsoft's profits come from the Business division. The Windows division profits were relatively insignificant...and this was before the no-cost Win10 operating system debut.

There are plenty of lazy PC owners out there, I fix their bloody machines all the time. It's not difficult stuff either but 'why should they when I can do it'? Nothing mind blowing about that.

  10. That's what they would like you to believe is that they are wide open and right up front on everything? In years past you didn't see options like the Windows Insider program but still saw the MSDN and TechNet paid for subscriptions back when the :"Hush hush" was on "Lohn Horn" which as we know became the late arrival Vista.

What was the minimum specs? 512mb? Even with XP you saw a vast improvement with 2gb installed while MS was pleasing the OEMs who were short changing everyone with a pair of 256s while Vista needed 2gb to run normal. Understating things is an MS trait!

Well as they say "if you can't take the heat get out of the kitchen!". Around here we tend to brew things hot! The actual reaility is people are simply too lazy and not interested in learning more about things. They simply expect everything to work all the time without any fuss.

As I was mentioning before MS sees it's livelihood coming from the corporate world just as any number of other software companies profit from. They can't fuss over every little home user complaint when their main objectives are marketing to the Corporate as well as educational sides of things. With 10 you'll notice they now have the Education edition emphasizing the desire to push the long time monopoly the fruit company has had aside to grab into that market.

Some common sense avoids a great deal of malwares like the old Vista laptop I was asked to reinstall Windows on multiple times since I did have a Home Premium disk on hand at the time when the product key was still on the attached label on the under side. Another time a drive failed likely since the couple's two kids were a bit rough when handling it including losing a key off of it. Of the way the keys were factory glued on you have to wonder why more didn't simply fall off!

When replacing one case for a newer model stainless job due to how the newer style saw the power, reset, eSata porst on a 45 degree angle facing forward over reaching back across the top to get at things when the case was pushed back into the recess of the cabinet of the computer desk I eventually replaced everything when passing the old case along including 4gb of the 8gb of memory first used on the newer case which became the main build here. I was initially running stuff taken out of the older Vista case first used for testing 7 and later the initial retail launch until both supply and board taken out by a failed supply had to be replaced when I simply ordered the first.

Once that was rebuilt later on in 2013 and passed along as a gift once a new board and supply went in along with some of the spare parts on hnad it simply sat there all this time collecting dust since someone else came along and didn't like his new 8.1 laptop due to 8.1 being on it. That person definitely won't spend one minute asking questions on how to see things done but goes out and buys another new pc!

With a recent loss due to a house fire of an All in One pc board inside display along with hard drive pre-made deal with 7 on it lost that one ended up with a brand new 10 laptop. We'll see how long he keeps that one before wanting to sell it used. That will after something won't run right or he gets fed up using Edge which should be real soon!

As for doing all the same things on 7 as you can do on 10 there's another topic of you can check the mail and yap on the social networks with any version coming up from 2000 to 10. That doesn't mean you can do all the same things however. 10 is three versions newer then 7 and brings in what 7 doesn't have support for. 7 doesn't see Virtual Desktops and neither does 8 or 8.1 while 8 brought in Hyper-V carried on by 8.1 and 10 but 7 had either Virtual PC 2007 used for the XP Mode or the need for one of the 3rd party programs.

10 also has something 8 certainly lacked and not the new Start menu but being dual boot friendly in contrast not ending up with both versions set up seeing disk errors resulting in both versions no longer loading! You also now see a dual platform OS something 7 never saw.

And regarding privacy concerns? 10 isn't any more snoop into your business then give your life history out when signing up for just about anything online as well as banking or shopping online. You're still putting personal data out on the web. Where do you think all that junk mail comes from whenever you open up any new email account? Your information was sold! Once you start using the account and providing it at various online vendors and other places it leaks!

Typical trite reply by someone who I was probably addressing in my previous post.
So you are suggesting if its on a forum you can choose as to whether or not to take notice.
What if porn manages to infiltrate a popular website used by children, well they do have an option.
So lets keep those with a stirring up hate agenda, of Microsoft W10 not satisfying their every whim, from spoiling what is a superb forum.

Glib!!! only use one O/S, you assume so much it makes your reply utter nonsense.
Have used every M$ O/S from DOS in the early eighties to the present W10 and also use Apple products.
Misinformed? I am not wishing to appear conceited, but really you must be joking.

Well, I tend to be a bit more laid back about things like this. And the way I look at it, not everyone can or wants to fix their issues with their PC's and I don't have an issue with that. IF I can I help out and move along.

@Coke Robot: I take my time with cell phone updates too. I usually wait at least 1 month before installing a big update so I have time to read the blogs and forums first.

My MacBookPro offered the "el capitain" update at start of October, but I haven't opted to install that yet either.

As far as Windows Update goes, I would like the ability to check a box to skip an update and I would really love to see a box that says x number of updates at 1,819MB. Right now, I dont know if its 5MB or 5GB.
