If you ever want to compare different DNS Servers - I always used to use GRC's as part of my initial survey when I went to site

It can still be used to compare your ISP DNS server to the various free access ones out there or even between options from an ISP

    Thanks for the link.
Networks, Networking, and anything to do with it, has always been my weak point in computing.
For some reason, I read, I even understand, what can go wrong, but the manually setting up one...

    hi there

What's new -- just the Hardware that people need to do this type of stuff is faster and a lot more sophisticated -- automation often makes for this type of malevolent attacks more "effective" - if that's the right word.

Shows that you despite whatever the people operating the services say should never rely 100% on online services !!!

I've even had to show people how to use an OLD FASHIONED MAP when their Sat Nav's have broken down -- and the concept of actually writing some of the key positions / junction numbers etc on a piece of paper !! was totally beyond their comprehension. We mustn't become too dependent on Technology.

Denial of service has been around even when dial up modems were used -- shouldn't be any surprise here.

Watch out for Ransomware at an International Level.

I think Steve Hawkin was on to something when he said greatest threat to Mankind wasn't Nuclear war or International Terrorism but more likely to come from "A.I" - Artificial Intelligence and Robots. !!

    Cheers

    LOL Jims...
I agree about the "We mustn't become too dependent on Technology" bit... but equating DDoS to AI? it's worlds apart...

I found out about it at Lifehacker.

    Hi there

An Intelligent but Malevolent Robot would certainly target disabling as far as possible the Internet as a first priority for causing Humans maximum possible inconvenience -- Communication has always been one of the first "Aids" to Humans even when they were "hunter gatherers" and using smoke signals etc to either warn other tribes or communicate with them.

It's all part of the same deal !!!!

    Cheers

  11. You could try DNS.WATCH (not listed there, it is located in Germany).

A nice tool for a quick lookup, but results based on 2 DNS requests could be flawed, I prefer Namebench.

I use DNS.Watch for my computer (DNSSEC, plain and effective) and OpenDNS in my browser (with dnscrypt).
I also disable DNS service, it is not needed with a reliable DNS, it can cause problems and be used by malware.
