  1. Database of known good Microsoft file hashes?

As a follow-up to the person who asked "Why doesn't Microsoft code sign hxtsr.exe?":

Is there a database where one can lookup the SHA-256 hash of legitimate versions of that file? It would be sweet if there was a powershell command like:

    get-msfilecheck -name hxtsr.exe -hash 33eaf93e81b8b3f26f9251b3e35b19148b6bb7d61623a298375d35bb76ec7cc3

...and you could get back a response of "Valid Hash" to confirm it was legit. But I'll happily take a web form. With so many files not digitally signed it can be frustrating not just for application management but incident response.

    :)

  2. Some Microsoft Edge files are corrupted - where do we find known good versions?

We used the System File Check tool to determine that the following are corrupt. This KB article suggests replacing the files with "known good versions." Where do we find known good versions of the following?

    Files hash info

I suggest you verify whether the files really are identical. Generate different hashes- as f14tomcat suggests below..

What convinces you the hash value computed is embedded in the file?

    Recover access database

Did you try this yet? http://support.microsoft.com/kb/283849

Run the Compact and Repair utility. To do so, follow these steps:
    • If the database is open, close it.
    • On the Tools menu, point to Database Utilities, and then click Compact and Repair Database.
    • In the Database to Compact From dialog box, select the file that you want to compact, and then click Compact.
    • In the Compact Database Into dialog box, enter a new file name, and then click Save.

If the compact and repair does not succeed, you will receive a message stating so. This means the damage is so severe that it cannot be corrected.
