    DCOMcnfg error

Odd error...when invoking dcomcnfg from the elevated command prompt on a Win10 Pro Desktop PC.

The COMPUTERS folder appears but when clicked the center panel is blank.
The Windows 10 HOME laptop brings up the My Computer icon in the central area, just as the Desktop has in the past on many occasions.

The tree at the left does list MY COMPUTER but when it is right-clicked|Refresh All Components or when clicking on COM+ Applications folder under My Computer, it throws an error. Thus, the five folders that should be under COM+ Applications are not accessible: COM Explorer, COM+QC, COM+Utilities, COM+Utilities(32-bit), System Application. DCom items can be summoned.

"8004E00F com+ was unable to talk to the MS Distributed Transaction Coordinator (which IS running in Services)

On the PC with the error, there are three folders under My Computer: COM+ Applications, DCom Config and Distributed Transaction Coordinator. On the other PC, where there is no error, there is an additional Running Processes folder.

Several system images were restored - without allowing updates, to be sure that they aren't the cause - all the way back to one made just after 1903 was installed. Same behavior - though DCOMcnfg was working normally fine until recently.

Many forum-posted remedies for the error have been tried, though they seem to address a failure to bring up dcomcnfg at all, which is not the case here. None succeeds. SFC and DISM are clean.

    Hints at what's going on??

    :)

    Persistent Event Viewer Error

    Hi,

If when in DComcnfg the edit buttons are greyed out that would be an indication that the editing rights are still with Trusted Installer and not Administrators.
Assuming you have admin rights on that machine, you first need to grant yourself permission by following the steps described in Vaio7's instruction which I copied here before.

Once that's correctly set for both hive keys you can then edit permissions in Dcomcnfg by right clicking on the runtimebroker symbol.
Should dcomcnfg pop up a message then just agree with what it suggests it does no harm whatsoever.

After editing dcom you then grant back ownership to Trusted Installer by editing the same keys in the registry once more. Reboot to see if the error's gone. It should.

Anecdotally, I just finished a clean install of Win10 and of course the same event id error popped up. It's fixed now simply by following the very same instructions.

    Cheers, *Wink

Error: No work available to process

Hmm. Either it's put out errors and WCG is limiting the work units available, or the project list may not be set to supply other WU when one runs out. (if the problem lies here and not on your end)

On the options to your left, if you go into Results Status, select the computer from Device Name and then look through results see if either they were returned late, errors or any other kind of issue that would stop the servers supplying WU from that perspective.

If there are no errors then it's maybe down to your project list. So selecting Device Manager from the left menu and then clicking on the profile assigned to that computer and make sure that it's assigned to receive WU for other projects if they run out.

At least those steps will rule out problems from the WCG end.
