  1. Dealing with pictures. Win10

I have not done a lot with photos on since switching to win10, but just recently was part of a discussion how we can't add simple text to a picture (while we can add all kinds of stupidity like animation) but this seem to continue.

To day I had to resize a photo so I can upload it, to under 2MB. It was 2.6MB

So after looking at it in "photo" I instinctively clicked on edit. That was my first mistake.

It opened up Paint 3D. I can't find any resizing is this new paint app. Do people not need to resize any more?!

After that I saw that I can open the old "paint" app, which I did, set the resize to 70% and saved the same PNG format as the original was and now I had a 4.95MB file. wow.

I kept researching and now I have spent 1/2 h on this, and realized the resize was right there in "photos" just had to find it.

    Great!

I opened my 2.6MB original PNG and ......now I am dealing MPs. Great. All I was is <2MB file not trying to figure out what MPs mean!

Since the original file was 8MP I only needed a 30% reduction, but the options were 4MP or custom. Picked the 4MP save it.

Now I had 486KB file. Not what I want! I want the picture to be as good as possible, so just under 2MB.

    So I went to custom.

Good bye MPs now I have quality %, which is good enough for me.

I picked the offered 80% and saved. 822KB. How is 80% of 2.6MB under 1MB?!

So I was gonna go to 99% but you can't only steps of 10, so I went to 90% .............. 1.34MB

I accepted this as exactly how much time should I be spending on something like resizing a picture to under a limit?!

People are trying to reinvent the wheel and in the mean time we are crawling. (google is not better)

    Sad.

    :)

Quick Access not searching Pictures folder

Summary, that last suggestion didn't work.

    • I moved the pictures to another folder temporarily.

    • Since there were no troubleshooting steps for this scenario, just for the heck of it, I ran through the restore steps. Copied some pictures into the Pictures folder, ran a Quick Access search and initial problem remains: Searching all of QA doesn't find any files in Pictures folder, running search on just the Pictures folder does. I want to run a global search and find matching files in any/all of the Documents, Music, Videos, and Pictures folders.
That article dates from 2015 and I'm guessing is out of date. I hope it didn't create potential future problems in my registry.

Bottom line: I'm still looking for a fix.

That's what the auto setting will do since you're over the 1333 mark it jumps to the next step which isn't listed or officially supported I assume by that ram.

At this point though I would suggest dropping the multi one step or .5 so that we can get something stable and possibly take the heat issue out of the picture for now.
