Quick Charge 5 compatibility

With the vast gamut of devices and accessories Quick Charge has to offer, it becomes complicated to track how it all interacts. We created the table below to show you the compatibility of various Quick Charge-enabled devices and accessories with different Quick Charge versions. Note that Quick Charge 4, 4+, and 5 supports USB-PD devices, meaning you can charge all your other USB products, including the iPhone 8 and above, to their maximum capacity faster than ever.

More good news: Quick Charge 3 now in wireless charging pads

Not to be outdone by its younger sibling, Quick Charge 3 technology will soon be available in wireless charging pads â marking the debut of Quick Charge technology in the exciting wireless charging arena and expanding Quick Chargeâs advantages to even more people.

Qualcomm Technologies has collaborated with Injoinic Technology, an industry-leading wireless charging IC supplier to introduce the worldâs first wireless charging pad platform with Quick Charge 3.0 certification â designed to sustain maximum high input voltage of 20V and 30W fast charging on the latest smartphones. Now, our customers can sell the convenience of a charging pad platform and the advantage of Quick Charge charging performance. For consumers, it means they can easily charge their devices wirelessly and benefit from the fast charging performance for which Quick Charge is known.

Fun fact: Airplane pilots can now charge with Quick Charge technology

Garmin is best known for its GPS devices and performance watches. But recently, we worked with Garmin to create a dashboard module that allows airplane pilots to charge their phone, tablet and other flight assistance devices using Quick Charge 3 â yes, airplane pilots can also experience the struggle of having their device batteries run low, even in if they always have it in airplane mode.

All jokes aside, pilots need this technology to keep their flight plans, weather data, charts, moving maps, and much more always in sync. With Quick Charge technology, Garmin can provide 3A (up to 18W) of power to each USB port simultaneously. This has helped pilots transition from paper to digital resources with additional flexibility and convenience**.

Qualcomm introduces Quick Charge 5 100W+ Charging Platform

Qualcomm Technologies, Inc. announced Qualcomm® Quick Charge™ 5, the fastest commercial charging technology for Android devices, which delivers unprecedented mobile phone charging speed and efficiency improvements compared to previous versions while enabling new battery technology, accessories, and safety features. The world’s first commercially viable fast charging platform to support more than 100W charging power in a smartphone, Quick Charge 5 is engineered to allow users to charge devices from 0 to 50 percent battery power in just five minutes – representing the fastest mobile phone charging capabilities available. Quick Charge 5 also uses Qualcomm® Battery Saver and the new Qualcomm® Smart Identification of Adapter Capabilities technology to support unparalleled efficiency and help extend the battery life cycle on a users’ device.

Performance and Efficiency

Building upon Qualcomm Technologies’ long-standing leadership in fast charging solutions, Quick Charge 5 is the newest addition to the industry’s leading fast-charging ecosystem[1]. Affording exponential improvements from its predecessors, Quick Charge 5 is 70 percent more efficient than Quick Charge 4 and offers 10 times the power delivery of Quick Charge 1[2]. This solution supports 2S batteries and 20 Volts of power delivery.

Quick Charge 5 sets a new standard for charging performance by charging up to four times faster than the previous generation. While Quick Charge 5 charges devices at blazing fast speeds, it also keeps extreme safety measures in mind; Quick Charge 5 incorporates 12 separate voltage, current and temperature protections, including USB-input overvoltage protection at 25V and external power controls beyond 30V. It also runs 10 degrees Celsius cooler than Quick Charge 4. Quick Charge 5 enables Dual/Triple Charge technology, adaptive input voltage, INOV4, Qualcomm Battery Saver and the new Qualcomm Smart Identification of Adapter Capabilities technology, which work together to maximize power transfer efficiency, increase safety and help extend the battery life cycle on a users’ device.

For optimal Quick Charge 5 performance, Qualcomm Technologies is introducing the newest and next generation premium tier power management ICs (PMIC), Qualcomm® SMB1396 and Qualcomm® SMB1398. Supporting 1SnP and 2SnP batteries, wired and wireless input paths, adaptive operation based on the power source (3 level buck and DIV/2), and scalability (primary and secondary to provide higher power), Qualcomm SMB1396 and Qualcomm SMB1398 are engineered to provide maximum efficiency above 98 percent. Finally, they can support higher than 20V input voltage operation to accommodate the highest power levels from both wireless and wired power sources. Qualcomm SMB1396/SMB1398 are now available.

Ecosystem and Versatility

Quick Charge technology is the industry leading fast-charging method, available on more than 1,200 mobile devices, accessories, and controllers – ranging from car adapters to docking stations – and unifying the handset and laptop charging ecosystem. Backwards compatible with Quick Charge 2.0, 3.0, 4, 4+ and existing handsets powered by the Qualcomm® Snapdragon™ mobile platform, Quick Charge 5 is a single accessory that addresses a variety of charging implementations in mobile devices. This solution’s support for more than 100W charging capabilities functions within the same footprint as the previous 45W solution, cutting down on users’ need to purchase additional Quick Charge-certified accessories across devices. Quick Charge 5 is optimized to take advantage of both USB-PD and Type-C technologies, addressing future Android requirements. Compatibility with industry standards like USB Type-C protocols also help users benefit from Quick Charge 5’s inherent scalability and expansion into additional devices.

Quick Charge 5 is currently sampling with customers and is expected to appear in commercial devices in Q3 2020. Introducing Qualcomm Quick Charge 3+ fast and efficient charging

Today Qualcomm Technologies introduced Qualcomm Quick Charge 3+ Technology, our latest addition to the Quick Charge family, the biggest fast-charging ecosystem in the world with 1000+ accessories and devices worldwide. With Quick Charge 3+’s faster charging and affordability, there’s now the opportunity to enrich lives around the world with the convenience of Quick Charge technology.

Quick Charge 3+ will be available first on Qualcomm Snapdragon 765 & Snapdragon 765G, followed by other new Snapdragon platforms across tiers in 2020. Xiaomi’s Mi 10 Lite Zoom, powered by the Snapdragon 765G, is the world’s first smartphone with both Quick Charge 4+ and Quick Charge 3+ charging technology.

Quick Charge 3+ focuses on bringing advanced fast charging at a lower price point:

Fast Charging and better efficiency: 0%-50% in 15 minutes, 35% faster and 9 degrees Celsius cooler comparing to previous generations*

Quick Charge 3+ will support industry standard USB type A-to-type C cables and accessories that support scalable voltage with 20mV steps from Quick Charge 4, which are more affordable for OEMs and consumers

Quick Charge 3+ is backward compatible with previous-generation Quick Charge devices and newer devices can work with Quick Charge 3+ accessories thereby always providing the most flexible charging experiences

Quick Charge 3+ supports new PMICs such as SMB1395/SMB1396, meaning:

Scalable architecture to allow OEMs to a move to higher charge power with the same software implementation and address different system requirement in terms of PCB design, charger IC location, etc.

Support of ultra-fast charging with lower-cost, variable voltage charging accessories such as Quick Charge 3+

Eliminating the need for external components such as OVP (Over Voltage Protection) chip, sense resistor and others

Qualcomm Announces Quick Charge for Wireless and Qi Interoperability

At Mobile World Congress, Qualcomm Technologies, Inc., a subsidiary of Qualcomm Incorporated (NASDAQ:QCOM), announced Qualcomm®Quick Charge™ technology for wireless power, bringing its years of fast charging innovation to the wireless charging industry and helping consumers to wirelessly charge their devices quickly, safely and efficiently.

Characterized by fast and consistent mobile charging, the over 1,000 commercial Quick Charge technology-compatible mobile devices, accessories, and components are equipped with unique safety and intelligence features that are designed to minimize the amount of wasted energy and heat build-up on-device, and maximize the battery’s lifespan, ultimately protecting and improving consumer’s devices.

While wireless charging has become a popular charging option, the speed and efficiency of such products remains inconsistent. Further, wireless charging products have been introduced that claim Quick Charge support, when they have not passed through the required Quick Charge compliance process. In response to these issues, Qualcomm Technologies has expanded its compliancy program to include wireless charging pads powered by Quick Charge technology. This expansion includes forward and backward compatibility and helps enable high- and efficient- power transfer, for transmitter manufacturers to achieve truly fast wireless charging. Wireless charging pads powered by Quick Charge will work with the same Quick Charge 2.0, 3.0, 4 and 4+ adaptersthat millions of users already have at home, work, and elsewhere. UL, a global safety science company and the first to administer the existing Quick Charge compliancy program, will expand testing to include Quick Charge for wireless power. Qualcomm Technologies is also welcomingthe first component vendor to the Quick Charge for wireless power program, Weltrend Semiconductor.

As part of the expanded compliancy program, additional testing will take place to ensure Quick Charge and Qi interoperability, aiming to provide consumers with a seamless wireless charging experience. The Wireless Power Consortium (WPC), creators of the Qi global wireless charging standard, includes over 650 member companies and over 3,500 compliant products. Qi-Certified devices include a majority of the world’s top selling smartphones, many powered by Qualcomm® Snapdragon™ mobile platforms, with thousands of public charging stations deployed in restaurants, hotels, and airports, along with accessories available through traditional and online retail outlets.

A staple of Quick Charge technology includes its compliancy standards testing. As with all generations prior, consumers can look for the same Quick Charge branding with which they are already familiar to ensure that their Quick Charge for wireless adapters have been vetted through compliance testing to provide a consistent and safety-conscious experience. Qualcomm Technologies enforces Quick Charge brand compliance, working with retailers to remove non-compliant accessories from their catalogs. Compliant products can be found within the Quick Charge Device List.
