Windows 10: Defender... its never off completely

Discus and support Defender... its never off completely in AntiVirus, Firewalls and System Security to solve the problem; Supposedly if you have another anti virus installed defender is supposed to pretty well shut down... but it doesn't... its still running... its still...     Supposedly if you have another anti virus installed defender is supposed to pretty well shut down... but it doesn't... its still running... its still in my processes eating cpu and ram especially when the pc first boots up. I wanna know why... why is Microsoft so insanely obsessively intent to keep crap running that we don't want. It reminds me of the cell phones with all the bloat ware... are the purposely trying to create a slower worse off operating system? Anyone know knows anything about computers knows the less crap running in the background the more resources you have for doing what you want on the computer. Considering it was OUR money that bought this crap it should be ours to do with what we want. Otherwise we might as well start leasing operating systems... Defender needs to go... it should be an optional download not forced... if its shut down it should appear NO WHERE in the task manager or running in services... it should be OFF in its entirety not seen not using up 1 single mb of ram... gone!!!

    Hi dalchina. Good news, I followed your suggestion and reinstalled the update and now it appears as "installed correctly" *Biggrin Maybe it was not necessary to run the Windows Update Troubleshooter or maybe if necessary. But using it I do not think it could have worsened something. The installation was very fast, unlike the first time it showed step 1 and step 2 completed.

  3. Windows Defender not completing scans

    Hi,

    Thank you for posting your query on Microsoft Community.

    As per the description, I understand that you are facing issues using Windows Defender.

    I would suggest you to go through the below methods:

    Method 1: Set Windows Defender to Automatic

    You can set the Windows Defender service to Automatic, Disabled or Manual. Setting it to automatic might solve the problem. Follow these steps:


    • Click Start > type services in the Search box > click Services in the Programs list.

      2. Search for Windows defender.

      3. Double-click Windows Defender, and click Automatic in the start-up box > click OK.

    Method 2: Run SFC scan, it will check, if there is any kind of corruption on the operating system.


    • Press WIN+X.

    • Click on command prompt with admin.

    • Type sfc /scannow and press enter.

    • Reboot the computer once finished.
