Windows 10: Defender keeps scanning my system

Discus and support Defender keeps scanning my system in AntiVirus, Firewalls and System Security to solve the problem; Defender keeps asking me to quick scan my system like every couple hours or so..     Microsoft defender for windows 10

    I have genius version of Microsoft windows 10 OS installed on my computer and along with it I do have windows defender to installed on my computer which I always keep updated with latest antivirus definition. Along with this I also keep my windows OS updated.
    When I start my computer, I understand windows defender too starts automatically and I presume that it continuously protect my computer from virus and other malwares. I also scan my computer with defender at least once a week. Recently when I scanned my computer
    for virus through defender, It found two virus in my system.

    I surprised in spite all above mentioned protections, how virus can enter in to my system even though it is protected by defender?

    Other point I have noted with defender that it has no provision to have auto scan of any external drive or system (like pen drive or CD/DVD) when they are attached to my computer. (I have seen such in built system of auto scanning external drives or attachments
    in other anti virus programs).

    Can any one or developer of Microsoft defender software can throw light on above two points.
