  2. System File Checker

To make a long story short, when I contacted Microsoft a few days ago about a problem I’ve been having, one of the possible solutions they gave me was to use the System File Checker tool. When I asked Microsoft’s Virtual Agent about it, she came
    back with “…To run it:

    • Select Start Windows logo Start button, and in the search box, enter
Command Prompt. Press and hold (or right-click) Command Prompt (Desktop app) from the search results and select
      Run as administrator.
    • Enter DISM.exe /Online /Cleanup-image /Restorehealth (note the spaces before each "/").
    • Enter sfc /scannow (note the space between "sfc" and "/").”

After the steps, she provided a link to learn more about the tool (System file check (SFC) Scan and Repair System Files & DISM to fix things SFC cannot).
However, that did not help me much.

Regarding steps 2 and 3, do I have to press “enter” after “…Restorehealth,” or do I type “…Restorehealth sfc /scannow” AND THEN press “enter?”

  3. System File Checker scan fails at 24% in Windows 10

Hello to all, and to you, Yashwanth Kotakuri,

My sfc was stopping at 19% and would not continue. I ran DISM as you state above and it fixed everything that was wrong (and there were things wrong). I then ran it again and it gave me 100% and cleaned up all errors.

My question is: If all is well with the DISM and it restored all files, why does my system file checker STILL stop at 19%?

How can I fix the system file checker, if there is one? If DISM says everything is OK, can I ignore the sfc?

    Windows defender is not updating

    Hi Mahendar,

You might be experiencing this issue due to a corruption of files related to Windows Defender. To help us identify the cause of this problem, we would like to know the following information:

    • Have you made any changes on your computer before experiencing this issue?
    • Do you have other antivirus or security software installed on your system?
    • What troubleshooting steps have you tried so far?

In the meantime, we suggest that you
use the System File Checker tool
to repair missing or corrupted system files. This tool scans for corruptions in Windows system files and restores corrupted files.

We also suggest that you download any pending updates that need to be installed through

    Windows Update
and check if it helps resolve the problem.

Keep us updated with the status of the issue.
